By DR RYNARI MP Simcoe North Parliament will soon be in session again It has been long holiday which has cost the tax payers great deal of money There have been trips all over the land with committee members going to Europe Asia and the MiddleEast to study people and what they do The prime minister has been to Europe and the Middle East and cabinet ministers have it ted hither and thither wherever fancy took them Having watched and listened over period of 20 years to the reports of the committees on these trips rarely have seen many of them adopted or prove to be of much value Many dollars have been spent when in many cases an independent study could have attained the same results for only fraction of the cost It is always interesting to note the makeup of these com mittees There are so many Grits always few more than the othersi so many Tories So many Socialists and so many Credistes all according to their just rewards and at tendance in the House The members get on committee and on the good behaviour list Of course the new session will stop some of thetraveiling RATING SLIPS When Parliament resumes Prime Minister Trudeau will start off with the lowest rating of Liberal popularity in history according to the Gallup poll He faced his new cabinet many of them in grave doubt as to where they would be going and few hours later they were all elated and cheering 0n Mr Trudeaus recent trip to the Maritimes he faced hostile crowds His last message had been to millions of Canadians watching television in their homes At that time he put across and had asked what plans labor had if they were going to take over the country He also asked the manufac turers what their plans were as they had not told him Many people watching television also asked themselves what would happen The country is in mess There is no doubt about it It is ship without rudder The media of course dutifully reported the highlights of the prime ministers trip to the Maritimes He is smart enough to get away with this but not smart enough His government has left too many scars across the land the Mirabel Airport which is not really needed the Pickering Airport fiasco new transportation policy which has never seen the light of day new agricultural policy which is causing chaos and defiance against the wishes of the people on capital punishment RECALLS MR KING think back to another Liberal prime minister MacKenzie King think of the message he used on so many oc casions where he moved with much less arrogance while he listened quietly and patiently to consensus of opinion on the subject under discussion Yes you must give that prime minister credit for seeing Canada as an association of diverse cultural and economic entities He saw that he must walk slowly in many areas In his caucus things were thrashed out and the opinions expressed by his cabinet ministers were heeded HIVIEW CATERING AND BANQUET HALL UP to 720 PERSONS woauuo my WE CATER TO YOUR HOME IItIIttIofloutfootllurvlco TELEPHONE 1160979 and then MacKenzie King made up his own mind after following opinion across Canada being made on any issue Mr King did not try to force anything down anyones throat or defy them as Mr Trudeau has done Never would Mr King have rushed in so quickly on the bilingualism question It may be said that he walked slowly but he walked with the support of most of the people in Canada He would not have wasted millions of dollars on bilingualism but would have taken policy which would have been followed and ac cepted by the people Advances would have been made and instead of stirring up hostile groups he would have been forming much stronger unity among Canadian people Mr Trudeau has lot to learn He could go back to that plodding prime minister who rarely projected his own thoughts ahead 01 his people but was careful enough to have them express their thoughts and then weigh them carefully in the best interests of an united Canada instead of country which is being divided with severe economic problems many of them due to the way in which anada has been allowed to drift so that in the last six months we have become the largest investor in the United States economy of any country in the world Mr King would have tried to study and understand the problems of labor and industry and find ways of giving them healthy climate in which to work and to build Canada of which we as Canadians would be proud Let us hope that somewhere along the line Mr Trudeau has learned some humility and some wiser ways and lead the people not drive or force them HDRSESHOE was advocated here by Coun cillor Allan McLean We feel this should be made priority by the county coun cil he said stating an in spection of the road will sup port this view Subsequent drive over the route distance of about four miles showed numerous bumpy sections It is going to take more than patchwork said the Oro town ship councillor who has been mentioned as possible reeve or deputy reeve candidate in the coming Oro election The road needs recon struction for widening and resurfacing said Councillor McLean referring to what he described as fairly heavy volume of traffic which he felt well justified the project Deputy Reeve Charles Sim pson had asked Simcoe County roads committee to give con sideration to improving the roadearlierinthe ear What we now is ac tion said Councillor McLean in discussing township road work Besides the bumpy section there are several curves with Signs posting different speed limits The Best memorial school is located op site the county road about If way between Dalston and Edgar County equipment has been engaged in grading the shoulders of the road recently The speed limit through Edgar is 40 miles per hour and is 35 at some of the curves East of Edgar it is 50 At one time this road was main travel route between Barrie and Orillia DUST CONTROL We would like to see better dust control with more oiling on roads he said The Oro council was in formed that supplementary grant of $10000 was approved for road work Most of it is ex pected to be spent on the 4th Line road Turning to the controversy over the proposed airport Councillor McLean said he felt representations of the residents should be given prime at tention The opinions of ratepayers should be respec ted he said Dealing with Barrie an nexation proposals Councillor McLean said he felt the county council and two municipal city councils should discuss mutual roblems and interests Then proposed open public meetings to hear from ratepayers WORK TOGETHER We all have common in terests in the orderly develop ment of this area and we should be able to work it out satisfac tory ourselves in democratic way he said The Oro councillor conceded that annexations of builtup areas were inevitable but boun daries should be decided on logical and practical basis with due consideration given the views of ratepayers concerned In my opinion that is what we were elected for he said
