committee of school principals and school board trustees will investigate the use of illegal drugs iir Siincoe ounty schools The committee will study the situation and make recoininendatioiis to the Simcoe County Board of Education it was decided at board meeting lediiesday iright The board has not determined who will be on the committee how the investigation will be Olltllttltd or when recommendations will be made The decision to form the committee comes after recent statements by spokesmen for the Addiction Research Foundation and Barrie city police saying illegal drugs are easy to obtain in elementary and secondary schools in the county Last week Sgt Bob McKenzie of Barrie cir ty police told parents association students entering Barries high schools are usually ex posed todrugs within the first lodays He said illegal drugs are readily available tostuderits in Grades through 13 in Monday lift Bennett of the rillia branch of the addiction Research Founda tion said survey done at two county high schools revealed about 2o to 23 per cent of students had experimented with soft drugs like marijuana Bennett said the study showed 90 per cent of students have tried alcohol in the Stewart They own the Downtown Centre at Iunlop Street and High Street The four businessmen are trying to pur chase property for the project Salter told The Examiner today They received letter of intent from the ci ty July 17 The letter said the city intended to enter into an agreement with the four provid ed that final approval froin the city and pro vince were given The province and city have already agreed in principle to the downtown seeder project area Ten properties have already been purchas ed forthe proposed plan said Salter The developers are trying to buy 31 properties in the area bounded by High liunlop Street East Ross and Maple streets major regional shopping centre senior citizeiis home arid new city transit ter minal are included in the projected plan said Salter Discussions are still going on with two ma jor retailers and the success of the project hinges on the city obtaining both retailers he said There has been much talk made lately of the expanded plan
