Wednesday at Molsons Park that these were not run of the mill crosscountry runners While other competitors streamed across the finish line with pain and exhaustion et ched on their faces they crossed the line seemingly unruffled While others gagged and eased themselves to the ground after their ordeal they walked about apparently thinking about their next race That as it turned out is what they were doing Peter and Debbie not only won the midget divisions of High school sports list Theres soccer and basketball the high school sports calen ar for today Barrie North Collegiates girls basketball teams visit Stayner Collegiate Institute for three exhibition games Soccer action this afternoon includes the Park Street juniors of Orillia versus North Col legiate Varsity in Barrie and Bantings junior and midget squads confronting their Eastview opponents also in Barrie Friday football matchups in clude Park Juniors and Orillia District Collegiate Vocational Institute at Barrie North Col legiate and Twin Lakes juniors and Midland seniors at Central Collegiate Season ending at Shanty Bay The mens section of the Shanty Bay Golf Club has scheduled full weekend of ac tivities to close the season mixed twoball foursome tourney will get underway at pm Saturday Following the tournament hamburg fry will be held TrOphies and prizes will be presented at the hamburg fry Its work and play for the men Sunday with bacon andegg breakfast starting at am and general meeting startingatQam All male members of the club are asked to attend the meeting The meeting will be followed by 18 halfanhour competing at longer distance in an older age bracket Peter finished seventh in the senior boys race Debbie was second in the open girls event Wednesdays races at Mo sons Park represented the third leg in series of seven races to decide the county crosscountry championships Stayner and Orillia had hosted the previous two meets For Debbie winning wasnt really much of novelty The Barrie North Collegiate Grade 10 student had captured the other two midget girls races in the series She is also Georgian Bays defending champion at that level Shes hoping to improve on 26th place finish in the all Ontario final last year The runnersaup yesterday in the midget girls division were Teresa Heal of Banting Memorial Hig School in Al liston and Sue McNabb of Bar rie North Angela Schmidt of Midland won the open girls race with Karen Alexander of Banting third Peters victory Wednesday was his first in the series He had finished fifth and fourth in the revious meets I4yearold Barrie Cen tral Collegiate Grade 10 student was third in Georgian Bay last year and says hes just com ing around this year Disqualification of Midland runner elevated Eastview Secondary Schools Kevin Mc Cron to second in the midget boysplacin Vince effield of Col ingwood was third Robbie Stevenson of Central was the junior boys winner and he also took to the trails within minutes of his victor to com pete at the senior leve The junior runnersup were Jack Hilton of Canadian Forces Base Borden and Ralph Grasmeyer of Central Jeff Bennett of Central was first among senior boys followed by Garry Cooper of Collingwood and Matt McKee of Orillia District Collegiate Vocational Institute Ten high schools and approx imately 260 students are com peting in the Simcoe County series of races Some 42 schools are pression on the Collingwood Junior football team in Geor ian Bay Secondar Schoo Association play nesday in Stayner The home team recovered its opening kickoff after C01 ingwood fumble at the 25yard line and proceeded to drive for touchdown running back An dy McKechnie doing the hon ors It was just the first of many long and successful drives for Stayner which emerged with 347 victory The Green Machine built up 140 lead within three minutes of the opening whistle and led mm the hal McKechnie had two touch Collingwood 347 downs for the winners Brian McKeown Colin Wilson and Dennis Thompson one apiece Mark Westbrooke had two two point conversions Stayner had success on the ground in the air and on punt returns against Collingwood The McKechnie and Wilson ma jors came on running plays Thompson scored on 25year pass play and McKeowns six points were result of his eluding swarm of tacklers on 51yeard punt return Ryan Potter Scored and con verted Collingwoods touch down in the fourth
