the staff suggested the committee focus on drivers as target for improvement The potential saving from limited success in improving the driver appears enormous the summary said WOULD SAVE LIVES Tougher licence testing and tougher demerit point system to get poor drivers off the road could improve overall driver performance by one per cent and save 18 lives and $5 million year it said Methods to reduce the in cidences of drinking and driving could result in the saving of 45 lives and $125 million and improvements in the performance of young drivers could reduce accidents in that group by 10 per cent resulting in saving of 55 lives Farm safety rules sought OSHAWA CP The On tario labor ministry is exam ining legislation from other provinces and the United States in an effort to draft jobsafety regulations for farm workers Labor Minister Dr Bette Steph enson said Thursday She said there are regulations governing farm laborers in Sas katchewan and Newfoundland but not in Ontario Attempts will be made to find appropriate sections from those regulations to apply to Ontario agricultural workers she said inaninterview But that may not be posv sible We may have to develop new
