Only place to get it is the provin cial government But reeve Gordon Iriest man says the province isnt making any concessions to allcviate the conditions we the township feel are unjust Reeve Priestman told the provincial commission studying the 13 proposed property tax reforms there is nothing in them to help the township The major problem he said is the loss of tax base on the vast amount of crown land in the township The province isnt paying any taxes on the land and put development freeze on privately owned land The freeze is effective until OSIS St AR Increasing costs of municipal operations and the lack of new assessment Mr Priestman said will result in another tax increase to township residents In 1975 the residential tax rate was 1733 mills with the commercial rate 1947 mills The total township assessment was $11 million with the com mercial areas at $50000 The bulk of the assessment is from the seasonal cottages along the Severn waterway Tea Lake and MacLean Lake The township about 30 miles northeast of Harie has per manent population of about 488 people with 1500 seasonal residents Mr Iriestnian said it is the areas most northern municipality with the second largest area of 54000 acres or 85 square miles the existing taxpayers who are already overtaxed should pay still more The reeve said while develop ment is stopped the province is promoting the township as recreational area for the general public This has resulted in an in crcase of day visitors to the area The day or transient tourist is very high on the scale of detrimental impact on the en vironment and very low on the scale with respect to being financial asset he said More lay visitors will put added strain on our limited serv vices such as roads disposal sites parking and docking he said Mr
