be asked tonight to lend their support to the directors who last month passed motion to impose an additional $200 assessment on members in an effort to cure the clubs financial woes The meeting described as possible the most vital in the clubs history will be held at the club starting at pm All shareholders and members have been requested by letter toattend news release affirms that one of the main items on tonights agenda will be to seek the support of the membeit shareholders on special assessment which has already been passed by the board If large response to the assessment is forthcoming the financial pressures on the club will be considerably reduced after which it is anticipated an aggressive drive for new members beginning within few weeks will do much toward putting the Barrie Country lnb on profitable basis The statement goes on to say that if the club is to continue to play most important role in the social lives of many Barrie and district people the full financial support at tonights meeting will assure there will be tomorrow to the finest country club north of Metro The special $200 assessment was decided upon by the direc tors as means of meeting $9900 in interest payments to debenture holders President Jim Sturrup has stated that the club is in default on the interest payments The club admits in the news release that it has bad financial problems since it opened in 1969 and despite the efforts of devoted members and previous boards of directors satisfac tory solution hasnt been found Mr Sturrup said the club is projecting loss of $68000 this year The directors are hoping to raise minimum of $60000 through the special assess ment Otherwise the resolu tion will be considered failure and the money refunded said Mr Sturrup Nonpayment of the assess ment by Aug 21 will result in the automatic suspension of all club privileges said the presi dent in letter Another item on tonights agenda will be the final report on the recently conducted Buy the Club Back campaignat last count the minimum objec tive of $400000 was bare $20000 short Hopefully tonight that goal will also be reached The campaign in question was reuqest
