Rescue Squad The Simcoe Rescue Squad which failed last week in its bid to get financial support from Barrie asked city counctl Monday for its moral support its class in secondary school string orchestras He wondered if it would mean in effect telling the city police to call the rescue squad instead of the Barrie Fire Department when an emergency arises Critics of the squad have said the Barrie Fire Department Peter Switzer squad public relations officer asked council to put off receiving letter from former Ontario SolicitorGeneral John MacBeth until council had chance to visit the squads headquarters in Midhurst inspect its equipment and see demonstration of rescue techniques He invited council to visit the squads headquarters tonight In his letter MacBeth commended the voluntary work of the squad but said the province would not give it financial support or legal recognition After council has seen the uads headquarters equipment and sample of its rescue skills Switzer said he would like to appear at next weeks general committee meeting to ask for moral support from the city Council agreed to hear Switzer next week but there were some reservations about giving moral support Ald Fred Ruemper said he wants to know just what giving moral support to the squad means has the same type of rescue equipment and perform the same kind of services as the rescue squad and allowing the squad to operate in Barrie would only mean expensive duplication of ser Vices Mayor Ross Archer wondered if council has the right to give moral support to the squads work outside of Barrie and if council gives its support what will it mean in terms of the squad operating outside the city He said he feels that if the city supports the squads work morally it should back
