assisted by taking nurses and other staff members to the hospital and returning others home They also transported much needed medicines to people stranded by Jan 1011 storm which literally paralyzed much of Simcoe County Willard Everton president of the Barrie Snowmobile Club which has membership of 45 families said the club was main 1y on standby during Fridays storm but werent called out He said during an earlier storm last month club member had been called to take man to the hospital from Utopia after he lost part of his finger in snowblower We started around 11 am and went until about 530 pm At times we had list of 16 names who needed assistance of some kind Everton said One of the members took calls transferred them to another who dispatched the snowmobilers from various locations NO PAYMENT Everton said club members use their own gas and oil and although offered by the hospital they took no payment Mrs June Everton herself nurse at the hospital said possi ble support of one of the club dances by some members of the hospital staff would be payment enough She said the money raised at their dances goes towards grooming the almost 1000 miles of snowmobile trails in the Huronia Region Its all in the form Howard Everton said the club is promoting the use of trails with as lit tle as possible travel on roadways During storm snowmobilers and aSSistance must use common sense he said We ask if pecple are eauipocd with warm clothing before we take them out three an extra suitlscarflmitts and helmet in my sons hockey bag and took that with me If they werent dressed warmly snowmobilers keep an extra five or 10 gallons of gas on hand but if they were to run out while helping Everton says it would be simple matter to take garage owner to his garage by snowmobile and have him open up He said most machines will get 50 to 75 miles out of five gallons of gas Screening calls is also necessity during an emergency situa tion such as bad storm One call received was from woman who said she wanted milk for her tea can see this after couple of days if people need milk and groceries then we would start bringing it to them but not after only couple of hours of snow INCREASE IN IATROLS Everton says he thinks there will likely be an increase of snowmobile patrols on the highways during snowstorms which close highways Some people just wont listen when the police tell them the Barrie Reeve Campbell had more than passing interest in Mayor Archers gesture he and the mayor will be squaring off during the bowlathon with the loser to pay 10 cents point on the others score Examiner Photo Delay on decision costing municipalities While the justices deliberate lost revenue accumulates The three Ontario Divisional Court justices who heard In nisfil Townships request for leave to appeal the Oct Ontario Municipal Board OMB decision on Barrics annexation were to hand down their ruling Dec 22 More than month later no decision has been made and the justices have given no in dication of when it can be expected The delay is not only frustrating for civic officials in Innisfil and Barrie it is costing the municipalities money Reeve William Gibbins said Monday that Innisfil is losing tax revenue every day the decision is delayed Until annexation is resolved he said the townships official plan passed in 1970 will sit on the shelf in Toronto waiting to be approved by the province And until the official plan is passed he said the township has to hold off approving housing developments and bringing its industrial area onto the market LOST It EV EN II It all adds up to lost tax revenue for the township which will be looking for as much new aSsessment as possible if the OMB annexation order is upheld and Innisfil loses the quarter of its land area with the most residential and com mercial assessment George Novakovich said earlier this week the township has paid legal and planning bills totalling $201878 for an nexation Those bills do not include staff time spent researching and preparing material for the lawyers and planners he added Barrie Mayor Ross Archer said the city will have to spend more money on top of the $268160 it has already paid out for annexation because of the delay The citys annexation lawyer James McCallum will have to do work on annexation after the courts ruling is handed down that should have been tidied up in December he said
