of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says the Post Office is misleading the public about the advantages of using the postal code in this city Dan Westwood president of the Barrie Local which represents inside postal workers says mail originating in Barrie for delivery in Barrie is not sorted by code Barrie mail is sorted by street and number or by box number Westwood says In order to take advantage of the code the necessary automated equipment must be present in the office and there are no plans present or future for letter sorting machines in Barrie he said Albert Eccles Barrie postmaster said the postal code is an important part of all mail and any mail not carrying the code is in correctly addressed Eccles said the local Post Office does use the code All bags of mail leaving the 051 office are tagged by postal code not ace namehe said Mail destined for outside locations may be sorted in automated centres such as Toronto he added ENCOURAGES USE Eccles agreed however that mail originating in Barrie for delivery in Barrie is not sorted by code The Post Office encourages people to use the postal code on all mail so they will get into the habit of using the code he said Eccles added that it would be inconsistent to have partially coded mailing list and Barrie residents should get into the habit of using the code on their return address Return mail may be
