rolled back to wagecontrol limits spokesman for Finance Minister Donald Macdonald said Friday that an automatic annual raise to all MPs and senators would be restricted to $2400 ceiling set by the governments wage and price control board The move followed disclosures that senior parliamentarians would get pay raises above the level when the increases came into effect next year Under twoyearvold law MP5 and senators get yearly pay boost equal to the average wage rise in the country Passage of that law followed 1974 decision by MPs to raise their pay 333 per cent The increase Jan comes to seven per cent raise that would push the salary and expenses of Mr Trudeau his 32 member cabinet 26 parliamentary secretaries opposition leaders and party whips past the $2400 limit After opposition Mls tried unsuccessfully in the Commons to get government agreement to curb the increase Mr Trudeau released statement saying his government is fully com mitted to the strict observance of the antiinflation wage regulations He said he would make statement after consulting control board staff ALLED IEIIN But Mr Macdonalds spokesman said the finance minister telephoned antiinflation board chairman JeanLuc lepin for advice then decided that the government would hold the raises to the $2400 rule Earlier Mr Macdonald said the government was not aware that the automatic sevenpercent pay raise for Mls applied to extra salaries given office holders The sevenperccnt increase will raise the $24000 annual sal aries and $10600 tax free expense allowances of MP5 by $2300 next year But senior parliamentarians would have received much more Mr Trudeau for instance would have been given sevenper cent increase on his basic $34000 plus the same raise on the $3031 he gets for being prime minister That would havejumped his pay $4600 next year Opposition Leader Joe Clark and cabinet ministers would have received the seven per cent increase on the $20000 year they are given in addition to their basic $34600 salaries and ex penses NDI leader Ed Broadbent parliamentary secretaries and party whips would have been given the increase on their ex tra pay of$5300 The revelation about the automatic pay increase drew sharp reaction outside the Commons All Canadians are restricted to $2400 pay raises during any of the three years the controls pro gram is in effect Bill Hamilton president of the Employers ouncil of British Columbia said the originallyscheduled increase would have been nothing less than an open invitation for everybody in Canada to work to defeat the spirit of the controls and be as selfish as we can AT DEVILBISS Decertlflcatlon vote ordered TORONTO tPi The On tario Labor Relations Board has ordered decertification vote among employees of DcVilbiss anadai Ltd
