16 The Barrie Examiner Wednesday December 15 1976 SPORTS CORNER Roe picked tap member By RANDY McDONALD Examiner Sports Editor Jim Roe has been selected as the Barrie and District Con servation Club member of the year Roe has been member of the conservation club for three years it was his efforts and accomplishments in forming the Junior Conservation Club which placed the Barrie resident high on the selection list The annual trophy is presented to the club member who has performed most effectively towards achievement of the clubs objectives throughout the season It is donated by Vaino Kukk tor of the conservation club Each year committee is past president and now direc selected and charged with the responsibility of coming up with deserving individual It doesnt appear as if the choice was hard one to make this year He was the only man who Kukk said deserved the trophy this year He was always available when we needed him Kukk said he had no hesitancy in selecting Roe Jack Bonney immediate pa st president said the work of the clubs first vicepresident with the Junior Club was big factor in the final decision Jim was selected for the general effort he put into the club in particular getting the Junior Club going after many had tried unsuccessfully The junior club has approximately 30 members between the ages of 1016 The award surprised Roe to say the least To be honest with jyou was speechless he said It was certainly sur prise its something we all want to win Roe said he was honored at being picked as the member of the year because the selection puts him in company with some dedicated conservationalists Morley Hoffman first won the trophy when it was introduced in 1961 The late Bill Bradley won it in 65 and 66 with Gord Myers name etched on the award in 1967 Paul Perri was duly honored in 68 with Dorothy Sweezie selected as the club member of the year in 1559 Kukk won the nominaton in 70 with Ross Cowan and Ted Swain following suit over the next two club years There was threeyear gap until Roes selection this year Barrie and District Hunters and Anglers Conservation Club has set aside Jan 10 as election night It will take place at the Consumers Gas Building on Ferris Lane Bill Alpin current president said Tuesday that good turn out was must Jan 10 There were only few members present at Tuesdays meeting Mr Alpin said nominating committee has been
