advance poll Advance polls were also open last Saturday and 371 voters turned out By RICHARD DUNSTAN Examiner Staff Reporter BAXTER Residents of the McGeorge subdivision near Angus will have to wait until next week for an answer from Essa Township council on solution to their water pro blems Residents of the 126home subdivision are operating the private system without legal authority The systems owner Mrs McGeorge in formed residents earlier this year she could no longer main tain the system because of dif ficulty in collecting water bills and because of irresponsible use of water by some residents Two weeks ago residents ap proached council to ask the municipality to take over operation of the system until the Ontario Ministry of environ ment puts on new system someyearsinthefuture As an alternative residents have suggested forming coop to operate the system with the township collecting bills from users delegation of residents are rived at council Thursday ex pecting decision on their re quest and found themselves sitting quietly while council members read fourpage report on the issue from township lawyer Alfred Dick The letter was received at the township offices Tuesday and distributed to council members at the beginning of Thursdays meeting MORE TIME After reading the letter and exchanging views with the delegation council members said they needed more time to study Mr system due to its substandard condition and various legal hazards If the township is to own system he said it should be new system installed under the Local Improvements Act with residents bearing per cent voltage cuts have been put into effect throughout Ontario by Ontario Hydro Ted Johnston public relations for Georgian Bay region of Hydro said Hydro officials are cutting voltage throughout the province to handle demand overload He said three per cent is the first of two possible reductions Ontario Hydro can make and five per cent will be cut if necessary The move is the last resort in terest in setting up co operative but opposed township takeover Reeve Eugene Smith said similar coop has successfully operated water system in the Hillcrest subdivision near Alliston for many years ACCEPT AS IS Delegation spokesman John Binns asked council to accept the system as it is without throwing in all these bloody roadblocks Another spokesman Al Calford said residents need water to live and are sticking our necks out country mile by operating the system without legal authority After the discussion ended Mr Calford told The Examiner residents had been promised decision Thursday and had not been dealt within good faith Delegation members say they cannot afford to put in water under local improvement or dig wells because they will have to pay again when the water resources commission system is installed In addition they say the 50acre subdivi sion will not support 126 wells Mr Dick said in his letter local improvement system would probably be incorporated in any provincial water scheme Residents say they have the signatures of 80 per cent of homeowners in the subdivision agreeing to give work crews ac cess to their property to make repairs They say they expect no difficulty in getting the re maining signatures Mr Dick says formal ease ments would be necessary for this purpose but Mr Binns told council most residents would not grant easements power Reporter and MAC JOIINSTON Ottawa Bureau Thomson Newspapers federal regulatory agency has told Barrie Cable TV Ltd it had no authority to introduce 75 cent monthly rate increase Dec The increase cannot be made until it has been approved by the Canadian RadioTelevision and Telecommunications Com mission CRTC the federal agency said Thursday in telegram to lWC Communica tions Ltd of Mississauga Rar rie Cable TVs parent firm Sandy Saunders vice presid nt of lWC said this mor ning decided if the ap proval was not received in time all subscribers would be given credit for the extra 75 cents they paid this month Mr Saunders said he will write to the CRTC today asking for urgent approval of the in crease Barrie cable subscribers were notified at the end of November monthly rental fees were being increased to $6 frotn $525 to cover the cost of microwave to improve re ception on Buffalo hanncls and4 ERRONEOIS At that time Bob Alexander manager of the local company erroneously told The this morning power was still off for all firms blown generator at Lambton station kept all the companies without power In addition all combustion turban units are in use to help supply powers Efforts to purchase power from neighboring systems have failed because of widespread snow and told problems Were unable to buy from counterparts because theyre in as much trouble as us said Mr Johnston
