the Associateship ARCT Diploma Following the address by The Honorable Thomas Wells minister of education Laura Mighton Pauline Wamica Christina Jay and Jane Black were among the 260 graduates who were presented with their diplomas The musicians who were honored at the ceremonies came from across the Dominion Graduates were there from Van couver Calgary Lantzville BC Edmonton North Bat tleford Sask Grande Prairie Alta Kincaid Sask Winnipeg Sault Ste Marie Victoria BC Quebec Scarborough Ont Re ina Sask Montreal Mississauga Ont Kenora Samia Ha if ax Belleville Toronto and many other centres across the country LAURA MIGHTON who graduated from Central Collegiate in 1975 played flute with the Collegiate Band for five years She is now in her second year of pharmacy at the University of Toronto Laura started her piano lessons in Whitby with Mrs Spratt When the Mighton family moved to Ottawa she continued her studies for nearly four years with Mrs Gertrude Tanton in 1969 on moving to Barrie she resumed piano studies with Muriel Leeper and theory with Sylvia Kent She received her associateship in piano in 1975 and completed all theory re quirements in 1976 Her diploma is for the solo performer PAULINE WARNICA studied piano with Elsie Bennett Toronto and theory with Mrs Elizabeth Harwood of Richmond Hill Mrs Warnica married to Dr John Warnica came to Barrie with her family nine years ago The WArnicas have three children Besides teaching small class of piano students Pauline is music chairman of the Christian Womens Club and also member of the Harmony Club of Barrie Pauline received her diploma for teacher piano CHRISTINA JAY is the wife of Rev DOnald Jay and mother of three girls She studied voice with the Davies of Bar rie and theory with David Wittick and Mrs Sylvia Kent Her diploma was for solo performer singing and in this field only 14 diplomas were granted Christina Jay is now enjoying teaching voice and history of musrc Mrs Jay finds time to hodirect the Senior and Junior Choirs of Central United Church While discussing music Mrs Jay said The Church through the ages and still today is source of encouragement and an outlet for musical talent Thus she
