land nor will the proposed Barrie airport planned for 242acre site near Guthrie get off the ground All eleven candidates for municipal office in the township went on record at meetthecandidates meeting Monday night as standing in op position to any further attempts by Barrie to expand into the township However some candidates such as former councillor Charley Sanderson said that expansionary pressures on the city will make expansion into Oro township inevitable Mr Sanderson candidate for council said however that township council must work to preserve farmland in ro in spite of pressure from Barrie and Orillia to prevent shor tage of agricultural land in the future Howard Campbell candi date for reeve said he was posed to annexation of township land by Barrie and praised the present council for its stand against an annexation bid by Barrie RIGIII STAND Council took the right stand on annexation he said be cause of the tax revenue that would be lost If elected Mr Campbell would urge that joint annexa tion committee be set up with Barrie to study future land needs of both the township and the city and to find ways to amicably settle annexation issues Mr Campbells opponent sit represent them on secondary school matters Mr Murphy resident of Ilawkcstone has been principal of St Joes for Six years He is according to the Education Act eligible to run for the seat as he will be serving on the public school board An amendment to the Educa tion Act in 1972 states teacher or principal may not run for the Dennis Cull dies at 47 Minor soccer in Barrie lost one of its stronger
