give the aspects of Canadian heritage for which she was most thankful There was much thankfulness expressed for the good fortune to be in country so bountifully endowed with natural resources especially the abundance of fresh water to be in portion of the coun try blessed by soil and climate to provide such diversity of products for our well being notably the fruits and vegetables and to be in small well knit community where people cared about neighbors FREE OF STRIPE There was an unanimous ex pression of thanks for country untroubled by constant strife and widespread violence for life of relative personal freedom in comparison with much of the rest of the world member who had just returned from visiting her birthplace in Holland said how glad she was to return to Canada and its comparative lack of restric tions Several members who had travelled in some of the worlds arid areas said they were even glad for the snow because it was part of our annual moisture level All agreed that there was great need for continuance to pass on the values of home and family work and integrity fortitude and foresight as shown by the ancestors who had created our heritage At program time each mem ber was asked to report on the progress with individual house logs permanent record to be kept in the home Institute women and all com munity members are invited to take part in this project way to preserve for posterity the history of the lot or parcel of land the house and occupants Many logs are complete notably those of Mary McLean Canadian books go to l1brar1es This month the Georgian Bay Regional Library System will distribute more than $12000 worth of Canadian paperbacks to the 65 libraries in Simcoe Grey Bruce and Duf ferin counties The books all written and published in Canada include fiction and nonfiction and many feature unique aspects of Canadian culture and heritage Ronald MacKenzic director of the system said the objec tive of the purchase is to im prove the collection of Cana dian paperbacks available to the public and to give support to Canadian publishing houses Sixty per cent of the books are from small Canadian publishers and the balance are from McClelland and Stewart This division gives each library basic works as well as small press books to which they might otherwise not have access Paperbacks are becoming increasingly important in public libraries Mr MacKen zie said Today the conve nience and appeal of paper backs are given consideration They are gaining acceptance by people who Would not read traditional hard cover book The book purchase is part of Outreach Ontario project of the Ministry of Culture and Recreation Distribution of the books in the region will be car ried out during the next two weeks Va the sororitys Sno Ball
