Innisfil reeve among top warden prospects MIDHURST Staff While the 1977 warden wont be elected until January there already has been much speculation in Simcoe County circles over the ossibilities Among those requently men tioned as leading prospects are Reeve Bill Gibbons of Innisfil Deputy Reeve Allan Glassford of Tecumseth Reeve Ingram Amos of Medonte and Reeve Morris Darby of Tiny Reeve Alan Johnston of Vespra and Reeve Donald MacDonald of Flos are among others men tioned Some consider that Reeve Gibbins has the best chance since he was chairman of finance during the past year when the county was able to reduce its overall levy against property taxpayers Past records show this chairmanship is often the stepping stone to the wardenship The incumbent warden Reeve Orville Hughes of West Gwillimbury and his im mediate predecessor Reeve Edgar Currie of Nottawasaga were both chairman of finance before moving up to head the council LARGEST LEVY Of the 33 member mu nicipalities Innisfil is the largest tax contributor to the county treasury The township hasnt had representative elected warden since the late Orville Todd headed the county council in 1943 Reeve Harry Cross of Tecumseth has been nominated several times for the warden ship He was rated good chance last January but had to withdraw for health reasons and Deputy Reeve Glassford was nominated The latter lost to Warden Hughes but made good impression and was Chosen chairman of the key roads committee Deputy Reeve Glassford is serving his sixth year on county council and previously was township councillor for four years He is wellknown Te cumseth township beef farmer The last warden from Tecumseth was George Lisk who headed the county council in 1960 Chairman of the county museum and archives board for the past two years Reeve Amos is currently finishing his 12th year as member of the county council and his 16th on Medonte council During that time he has served various chair manships including county roads in 1974 member of the Barrie suburban roads commission Dalton Jermey was the last warden from Medonte He headed county council in 1964 REEVE OF TINY Reeve Darby is native of Tiny township and lifelong resident who is currently com pleting his sixth year as reeve He was nominated for the wardenship last January but withdrew stating he hoped to beinthefieldlater former president of the On tario Crop Improvement As sociation Reeve DArby was secretary of the North Simcoe Association for 30 years He served on the county finance committee during the past year and was chairman of the
