advertising and our desire for high standard of living it is easy for individuals and families to overspend All of us have to watch ourselves closely evaluate our purchasing carefully curb our impulse buying and generally use our available resources wisely If we do not we can soon bring ourselves to financial ruin Closely assonated to finan cial problems and pressures are emotional tensions It is fact that economic difficulties are major factor in marital problems and marriage break downs One would want to see then that the government that has the responsibility for wise leadership and has in Canada claimed almost total respon sibility for the education of its citizens would give an example of wise budgeting and spen ding One would want to see the government take lead in pro moting and educating for healthy economic climate After all we look to the leaders and experts But there also we discover that rampant overspending oc curs If recall correctly news broadcast the government deficit was $561 for every man woman and child in Ontario expected to jump next year to over $600 per capita In the same way the national debt in creases annually And what seems so ridiculous about the whole situation is that the taxpayer has to pay con OBITUARY WILLIAM CLEMENT William Clement life member and past master of Coronation Lodge AF and AM 466 Elmvale died Wednesday at his home He was at best WINTARIO But on top of this the govern ment gives us Wintario where everyone is winner Our government leaders teach us to take our hard eamed money and rather than use it wisely in wellplanned budget that allows us to give to charity or worthy cause of our own choice to simply throw it away in selfish gesture to win in gambling venture Rather than promote careful investment and expenditures and prudent saving and gen erous giving our government instills within its citizens an at titude that can only destroy the economic not only but all the foundations of country Rather than training citizens to be wellequipped to handle money the government is teaching on broad sinister and subliminal level way of economics that is contrary to all historicallyproven and morally defensible ways Rather than point out the fol ly and the irresponsibility of gambling our money away the government is promoting lifestyle and way of budgeting and handling where everyone is aloser If lotteries continue to be part of Ontarios way of life we can expect our future leaders more and more to gamble with the money we entrust to them rather than use it to build solid economic program for our Is there place for theology in the secular society By REV RAY WALDOCK First Baptist Church ls reli ion meaningful word for ern man Is there place for theology in secular society Two things surprise me these days One is the almost com plete disregard on the part of most people for God for church or for worship The other is the almost unbelievable increase in the study of religion historically and comparatively On the one hand people are saying that religion is un necessary in the secular society On the other hand they are saying that religion is necessary Most of us tend to walk with one foot in each street The problem is that the streets are neither parallel nor even going in the same direction believe the time has come for people to understand that religion and theology speak to the very heart of the dilemma in which our society finds itself Theology talks about God Theology means the study or science of God It says that God is the focus of all human existence the goal of all human accomplished by Wintario funds And some may be worthhile NOT PROUD But for one would not be proud to say that something in Barrie was reality because selfish people carelessly threw away money that ought to have been used wisely in the family budget do not enjoy seeing projects that are visible manifestation of countrys degenerating leadership and rotting founda tions and which point only to gamblers miserable ruin Gambling and such irrespon sible use of money has never been good for country and its growth whether economic political social or spiritual USuingl our resources of any kind wit losers odds can only result in game where everyone loses challenge you then to use your resources individually and communally in wise unselfish way Budget well invest wisely given generously to the charitable cause of your choice Train your children and fellow citizens to handle their resources responsibly for stronger nation This method stewardship It is way guaranteed to build individuals and families and countries economically and politically and socially and spiritually Let us show our leaders that we want leader ship so that everyone may be wrnner Responsible stewardship is the way of Gods word is called aspiration God gives meaning to life life that in secular society has no meaning or relative meaning at best The question of why are we here is clearly answered when God becomes the focus of life God gives purpose to life He shows us what our function is He shows us what we should be doing and how we may ac complishit God gives us an awareness of selfworth We are the objects of His special love and care Human dignity without God becomes human indignity God gives us sense of responsibility He tells us to care for his creation He tells us to care for His children He tells us to care for people for whom no one else cares God loved the world so much and He wants usto dothe same God gives us hope The end of man is not death but life The culmination of all things is not Nirvana but knowledge to POINTS TO EIQNIQER Loving everybody nice but impractical Every once in while our stoolsitting guitarpicking ballad singers write song which tells us to love everyone despite race or creed This is beautiful but impractical ad vice because we human beings are not born with that kind of love built in Tellin us to love everyone which inc udes the ir ritating the unlovely the hostile without explaining where we can obtain the power to do so is like expecting child to read before he has learned the alphabet Jesus reached beautiful sermon mm mountain one day in which He told the people to love their enemies But His teaching included how to do it instruction Ye must be born again He said Unless Christ by His Spirit has come to live within us we shall utterly fail in our at tempts to love all men When child is conceived it receives genes and chromo somes from its father and mother Similarly when per son receives Christ he receives the Spirit of Christ which makes him
