benefits from the proposals to exempt farmland and buildings from municipal tax He also won dered about any overall ad vantage to taxpayers of having the province pay property taxes on government property since they would have to make up this revenue in taxes Mr Glassford mentioned clause under which farmer would have to pay back the government for tax payments if the property was ever sold for other purposes than farming OWNERSHIP It would make one wonder whether he owns his farm or not said the deputy reeve who is now serving his seventh year on county council The general idea of helping the farmer was commendable but with in heritance and capital gains taxes the proposed new exemp tion was something to raise more questions The Ontario Federation of Agriculture has been interested and concerned too said the Tecumseth deputy reeve when reference was made to views of federation of ficials As for taxing government property the deputy reeve said it would be the taxpayers who would be paying the bill in some other form The ls tax reform proposals should all be con sidered with care and caution after all the implications were fully explained it was sug gested These would be made effec tive when property assessment is changed to sales value basis slated for 1978 Assessors have been preparing for this change since the provincial government assumed respon sibility
