entry Saturday they had such an opportunity in the featured eighth race The result may have left them hungering for more of the tWoforone combinations Double Gene and Popa Coke running as an entry for trainer Wes Coke of Norval finished first and second in the feature the $11495 Ontario Sires Stakes for pacing 2yearold colts and geldings The duo heavy favorites of the crowd of 1001 which bet them down to 15 paid $260 $280 $330 The 11 exactor paid $1450 The race was supposed to be confrontation between Double Gene and Rock Wave both winners of over $80000 in Sires Stakes purses this season The duel never materialized Double Gene and Popa Coke left quickly from post positions two and three to take im mediate command dragging in their wake the horse with the inside hole Snap Cap Rock Wave disadvantaged with outside post position number six got caught up iii the back of the field The 95 se cond choice sat sixth most of the first halfmile making move to the outside as the horses rounded the clubhouse turn for the second time But Thamesvicw Blaze driven by Fred List wasnt about to give in to him and Rock Wave was parked all the way to the homestretch Ile lacked finishing kick and finished fifth behind the entry Rick udge and Thamesview Blaze The strategy of the entry was obviously to get in front and stay there together making things that much more difficult for Rock Wave had he made threatening move Drivers Coke on Double Gene and Wayne Hussey on Popa oke carried it off without snag Not once in the race did horse get by them Double Gene led throughout opening up lit tle
