wwmnvw Hm FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH SATURDA SERMON Christians known by deeds not only by their words By RAY WALDOCK First Baptist Church The last time wrote for this paper wrote about the disaster of earthquakes com plained that the real disaster was that we Christians talk up storm about our love for people and do so little to prove It is my privilege to serve on Canadawide committee that tries to do something tangible about the kind of disasters that are plaguing our world We have been aiding the con sistently stricken people in Bangle Desh We have been help school in Liberia the menta iy handicapped in In donesia stru gling people in Africa Droug stricken suf fering underprivileged distressed people are the ob jects of our concern To be in close touch with needy people through our con tacts around the world can be very disheartening experience The needs are so many and the means of relieving those needs so few Yet we try conscien tiously to meet as many needs as we can We in Barrie have been for tunate in being able to do something even more specific Through our contacts in Guatemala we have learned of the need for water purification system in the huge 1000bed Psychiatric Hospital in Gua temala City Ernia Watts and Ed Green have been down in Guatemala city installing water purifica tion unit While they were there they were able to see some of the devestation wrought by the earthquake and to discuss with the ministries ways and means of helping them alleviate human suffering These men have taken time from their work and have gone ladly to undertake very dif icult task Their purpose sounded so simple when they started but those of us who have travelled and worked in other countries know some thing of the kinds of difficulties they faced Montezumas Revenge was only one of the handicaps of their task What these men have done is really not different from what others in Barrie have done in work with the doctors who go to Latin America for eye clinics What they are doing is saying that its not enough to talk about needs and helping people meet needs but action is re quired There are always people among us who will make ex cuses They will list 100 reasons why they personally cannot become involved All of those excuses are entirely valid Somehow pity the people who subsist on excuses There life is characterized by what they cannot do On the other hand take real pleasure in the people who exist on purpose These are the peo ple who discover what they can do and set about to do it It will always involve risk on their part It will involve sacrifice It will cost them but these are the people who can change the world These are the pie who make the world tter lace to live in These are cople who do somethinga utdisaster Let me remind you that it was Jsesus who said the ge nuine people will be known by their genuine deeds It is not everyone who says Lord Lord who inherits the kingdom of heaven It is the one who does the will of the Father who is in Heaven Keeping in touch top judges intention EDMONTON CPAlber tas chief provincial judge says he will continue to sit on the bench to keep in touch with the provinces lower court system Judge Robert Allan Cawsey 53 who was named to the post in March said that will help him find answers to problems facing the courts My responsibility is to give us the best provincial court sys tem in Canada he said add ing that by sitting on the bench thats the only way can know all the problems and proce dures Judge Cawsey has set definite goals for himself and some subtle gentle changes he wants to bring in The judge said he wants to improve the care and feeding of witnesses The system treats witnesses just one step above the acoused Ive known this since was young but was never in posi tion to do anything about it Another area of concern is Bear your cross cheerfully to find true peace of mind KILBURN Her husband had contracted multi ie sclerosis and every mom ng before he left for work By CLARE Witnesses meet in Toronto TORUNIUAn estimated 160 Barrie residents are in Toronto this weekend attending the fourday district convention of Jehovahs Witnesses They are among15000 Wit nesses attending the annual event which ends Sunday at Woodbine Race Track Theme for the event is Sacred Service with em phasis on improvement of spiritual life within the family circle The convention opened Thur oday with speech by Robert Thornton of Tomato who told delegates liberation of women means going against the Bible Women are weaker vessels and we dont want to burden them with anything that would affect them emgtionally or callyhesai IX baptismal service took place Friday and on Will serving God sove your is planned for Sun Lectures discusswns and Bible dramas also form part of theevent Some 15000 pounds of meat fish and chicken 10000 pounds fore gallons of God comes to walk with us and of tatoos 10 she had to give him needle This sort of life was definitely not her cup of tea so she left him Then she thnew herself in to church work doing all kinds of good deeds for others but peace of heart eluded her She had from beneath her cross had closed the door to the avenue down which the Lord Himself would have come to walk bestde her with beautiful tlifts of patience for bearance and longsuffering ini His hand She had turned aside from His will for her life and sought to put in its place her own ideas of how she wished to serve Him In the life of every Christian there is cross II cumstance under which we chafe If we are Wise we shall accept that hard Circumstance as the will of God for our lives and triumph in spite of it Its components may not ill themselves be good but God has allowed it and the word of God says that all things work together for good to them that love God To those who do not love God there is no such nise The Christian is guar and kept by the Almighty as nannan Whittal Smith so apt puts it in her book Not singe shaft can hit till the loveofGodseesfit Therefore we as Christians should accept our cross as designed for us by the hand of loving God in order to make us like His Son kind silf forgetting and patient Strange as it may seem this is the way to peace of heart because the will of God though in rancc may fill us with ingi is the place where and more than iooooo ice we find the truth of the scrip creom bars will be consumed tmwhich says during the convention Take my yoke upon you and learn ot me for am meek and lowly in heart and ye shall find rest unto your souls For my yoke is easy and my burden is light Matthew II 2930 Summer TRLHO itPt It be gun as summer Job 46 years ago but turned into lifelong career Barry lBUtk Rumsey or nearby Lawrencetown is far niiliar figure to more than 500 families served by the post of lice ill
