commiiiittes are very nice Thats the reason we moved up here it makees things so much friendlier Arch Brown and Russell Baranowski were two positive businessmen Friday afternoon as they checked over the ana dian General Electric demonstration booth at the Canadian Tire Store Mr Baranowski general manager of the CGE plant in Barrie said his company is holding special demonstra tion and contest to honor the opening of Mr Browns new store at the Bayfield Mall Canadian Tire Corporation is the largest purchaser of certain lines of CGE appliances and the Barrie CTC store is the third largest in Canada Mr Baranowski stressed that is important to his company but is also important to the residents of Barrie the place where all CGE houswares are manufactured The local plant located on Bradford Street employs 600 people and is the largest small appliance manufacturing plant in Canada 26LINES In total 26 product lines are manufactured here including lawn mowers heaters hu midifiers vacuum cleaners personal care products irons and the wide range of food preparation appliances Onethird of the sales out of the plant are designed in Barrie by local people Mr Bar anowski said In addition the company manufactures large number of electric kettles for export to the United States Electric kettles are Cana dian product and there are vir tually no manufacturers in the United States turning out the product CGE first located in Barrie in 1946 and while it hit its worst slump ever last year cutting its staff in half thing are on the upswingagain Appliances are largely af fected by housing construction but Mr Baranowski said good recovery is in progress We are looking to many suc cessful years and future efforts to expand in Barrie Mr Baranowski said But Mr Baranowski is not the only one enjoying an upsw ing in business Mr Brown noted that in the first fotir days of business in his new store his retail equalled the total of his first year in business 13 years ago MORE ROOM At his new location Mr Brown has more room to display his appliances and finds they are selling at higher rate than most other product lines He has noticed more women customers brousing through and believes his store is no longer considered mainly mansdomain The booth at TTC is dem onstrating the toaster oven and selfcleaning iron The selfcleaning iron is good idea for Barrie residents as the water here is so hard Mr Brown said and the toaster oven conserves energy Toaster ovens and personal care products are being given away as part of contest this weekend at the store Summing the situation Mr Brown observed As Barrie and area grow and prosper so we predict Canadian General Electric and anadian Iirc two responsible Barrie cor porate citizens will likewise grow and prosper to the better ment of
