MI he Barrie Examiner luesda June 29 1976 SPORTS CORNER weekend coming By RANDY MCDONALD Examiner Sports Editor Barrie Rugby Club is getting excited The club is host to one of the largest if not the lar est asxde rugby tournaments in the province And it al takes place Saturday at Molsons Park Already some 20 teams have registered their intent to participate in the daylong tournament Teams are coming from as far away as Montreal Toronto and even one side from Kentucky Included in the list of entries is last ears tournament winners from Brampton John Butcher irector of publici ty for the Barrie organization said Monday he expects well over 30 teams by Saturday Barrie is to be well represented with number of teams entered in the tournament Mr Butcher said he expects all the top sides from across Ontario to participate in the event which has 10 am start and runs continuously throughout the day until the championship game early in the evening Besides attracting topranked clubs the seventh annual tournament is open to the public free of charge There are ample facilities to camp out Butcher said The tournament is straight knockout affair although clubs eliminated from the cham ionship round move into plate play Each team is guarante at least two games The draw will take place Saturday morning prior to the official start The holiday weekend has turned into sports whirl wind steady stream of events continue to crop up as the weekend approaches Of course July being Thursday throws minor hitch into plans of those hoping for long weekend RANGERS TOURNAMENT STARTS SATURDAY There are two baseball tournaments scheduled for the weekend The Ivy Rangers of the North Dufferin League and the Barrie Red Sox of the South Simcoe Baseball League are behind the two tournaments Rangers have attracted five teams of the South Simcoe Baseball League into competition against three clubs from the North Dufferin loop Oriliia Majors Creemore Braves Beeton Alliston Canucks and Ivy Leafs will carry the banner of the South Simcoe loop into the twoday tournament Lisle Ivy Rangers and New Lowell represent the North Dufferin League The tournament is set for 10 am start Saturday Here is sneak preview at the first round of competition Orillia Majors meet Lisle in the opener At 1130am Creemore Braves play New Lowell at pm its match between Beeton and the Rangers 230 pm Alliston goes against the Leafs pm losers of games one and two pair off 530 pm winners of games one and two meet in the last game of the day Play picks up Suncday at pm with the consolation game at pm and
