l4The Barrie Examiner Wednesday June 23 I976 SPORTS CORNER on suspensions By RANDY MCDONALD Examiner Sports Editor It started earl Tuesday and was finalized late in the evening by presi ent of the Barrie and District Senior Soft ball League John McCann The issue in question is the suspension of four players one from Barrie and three from Bradford and the lowkey approach the league took in keeping the matter hushed It was one week ago that an elbow tag then rather strong following tag led to what has to be called bench clearing That was the game between the Slessor and Periard In surance Juniors and Bradford Queens Hotel Seniors at Queens Park Doug Keans was the third baseman involved with the in itial racus with Bradfords Les Chaisson The incident may well have been settled right then but for the appearance of two Bradford players from the bench This sparked gathering of both clubs There appears no real damage done but the league saw fit to hand out total of six game suspensions Keans already has sat out his one game with Chaisson sidelined last night when Bradford hosted Church Mobile Homes Randy Perry and Andy Purmals have one game left in their tw0game suspensions The decision to suspend the four players was made Satur day at meeting which included two executive members hitob officials of the Juniors and the manager of the Bradford Both Purmals and Perry were handed the stiffer sentence after report from the game officials more or less blamed the furthering of the aggravagion on the two players com ing off the bench We cant put up with that kind of action McCann said last night The name of the game is softball and we dont want that kind of playwere going to play ball and thats no Sad part of the whole issue is the fact that the league ap parently wanted the whole matter kept quiet bad publicity and all that As result the incident may now have been blown way out of proportion something which would have been avoided by simple statement of action taken Actually it took call from member of the Bradford team early Tuesday morning to get the ball moving He was upset at the league ruling and more than little curious as to why nothing had been reported on it This particular player located paper in Bradford as the sourceor soon to be sourceof stinging editorial which clearly denounced the executive calling it unfair and biased check with the editor of the paper in question shortly afterwards revealed no such report being filed with him Later in the day he acknowledged that he had report con cerning the suspensions but that he had chosen to rewrite it The report is to read along the lines of Bradford players and management being upset with the dicision Bradford coach Bob Fallis considers the ruling unfair He said the club was little bit peeved at the ruling and although the club is not planning any drastic measures he wanted it made public the clubs objections and displeasure really dont know the reason why he answered when asked to pin point the reasons for the 31 ruling The incident itself stems from gameending tag by Keans The official umpires report says an elbow was thrown by Chaisson to which Keans is said to have retaliatedhence the onegame suspensions Fallis said he was also not happy sith the idea of an all Barrie executive NOW UNITED If there was one thing dragging down the protest against the proposed gun control amendments Bill Cfti it was an organized front to carry the full weight of the millions of people which have come against the controls This has been solved Recently at meeting in Toronto between representatives of Shooting Federation of Canada Canadian Gun Collectors Association the Canadian Wildlife Federation national body was appOinted as the Official voice of protest The Shooting Federation of Canada now offers direct link to Parliament with individual clubs and members now having channel in which to carry their protests There has always been an urgent need for bringing together of clubs across Canada said Doug McBride member Alliston Rod and Gun club as well as founding member of the Association of Canadian Gun Clubs What this means is that when the shooting Federation goes to Parliament to oppose Bill C83 it will official lythats the key wordrepresent the views of literally millions McBride recommended that the rest of the provinces structure themselves in similar fashion using the Federa tion as the top rung of the ladder CLEARING THE BASES Aurora Juveniles also under went minor revolution last week Don Walker was coach up until the start of the
