reducing the cost of bons ing in Barrie The proposed policy she said is too strong and does not allow developer the freedom of choice Were getting so dicta torial Im afraid well bring the problem Ald Ernie Rotman development Committee member who attended the boards special meeting for information told the board AHOP in multiple family zon ings semidetached and townhouses would force lower prices for land in Bar me He said the land cost would decrease because builders and developers would realize they have to build according to the AHOP regulations AHOP limits the maximum selling price of unit to $39500 and the size of unit to 1100 squarefeet dont understand why youre trying to fight AHOP he said to the board Most people in this city are not making enough money to buy 50000 to $70000 house $40338 AVERAGE The housing statement prepared by the citys plann ing and development depart ment states the average house cost in Barrie in 1975 was$40333 The purchase of the average 1975 home would re quire an income of $16000 well in excess of the earning power of the majority of Bar rie citizens it says Graydon Richardson board chairman said if the proposed policy making AHOP mandatory was ac cepted it would not lower the developers and builders they have to build according to AHOP The policy he said is cutting into any form of freedom left to developers and builders Im not so sure we should not be little looser and con sider each case on its in dividual merit he said lf developer agrees to build ac cording to AHOP then thats fine Copies of the changed pol icy are being sent to the city development committee and city council after the plann ing board reviews the housing statement again at its next meeting June 15 The committee will make recommendation concerning the use of AHOP
