young man growing up in England delivering groceries as the perfect opportunity to meet his lady love Almost like the storybooks re but not quite Elsie Mary Looker was equally enchanted The couple courted and married within short time Now so years later they have telegrams and presents five children and six grandchildren to show for it Mr Pedlingham he says he wouldnt trade his wife for anyone career ended Wednesday when he retired after 39 years with Harold Hill and his family During short retirement party at the Barrie Second Hand Store Mr McGregor 81 was presenter with the traditional gold watch by the Hills bottle of champagne and gleaming red snifter Starting in his home country Scotland May 19 1895 its been long and varied life As loyearold boy Mr McGregor made the hard voyage to Canada paving the way for his mother to follow Educated in the Lafontaiiie area he was raised on farm owned by John Downer on Con oessioii ll of Tiny Township In 1937 Mr McGregor was hired by five years he worked as general handyman at the store repairing used ap pliances stoves and washing machines Mr McGregor spent the first half of his life working variety of jobs For three years after the First World War he was postal clerk for the kiiiadian PaCific Railway On two runs the Toronto Owen Sound and Toronto lenetangiiishene he was the mail clerk Mr McGregor joined the poviiicial government in the department of mines as games and fisheries employee He spent 23 years working his way from game warden in Sim me County to the assistant in spector of Ontario checking trappers
