but each onea dsa new dimension to him With each pot make learn something new said the bearded Barrieborn ar DSt who has returned to his home town to conduct week long advanced ceramics course for Georgian College Summer School course Pottery itself hasnt changed in the past 5000 years But artitsts must change to fit their world It is not enough for potter to know how to use potters wheel or kiln potter must be kind of molelike concen trator on his work yet he must be simultaneously aware of and involved in many other areas art chemistry geology and the world outside self Mr Reeve said during an inter view His topic for his workshop is the potters work as broad as it is narrow Through lecture and demonstration he em ghasized potters need to be exible Mr Reeve who is presently involved with Cold Mountain pottery at Roberts Creek BC was born and raised in Barrie His mother Mrs Gor don Reeve still lives in Bar me Wellknown as potter lec turer and author Mr Reeve has travelled and taught in Mexico Canada the United States and England His work has been featured all over the world He has also received awards and commendations for his work He is author of Book OneA Potters Way to Understand Glazes Mr Reeve left Barrie in the mid50s to study the Van couver School of Art From there went to England to work with internationally famous ceramist Bernard beach guess Im persistent he said explaining his reason for success in the field What mean by that is Ive been around quite while But its stran Im still try ingtodoitrig Thats the challenge And the challenge demands con oentration More than anything pot ter has to have the ability to concentrate on his work as whole And although the art of pot tery hasnt changed in the past 5000 years technology certainly has brought ceramics to peak of popularity Im glad to see ceramics courses in the classrooms today he said And although technology might disturb some potters with the threat of mass pro duction Mr Reeve is un concerned There was time when people mi ht have valued mass pro uce But today there is an increasing trend to appreciate an artists work zaamxiawemmm ENGAGEMENT Mr and Mrs John Murison wish to
