Cookstown is again chosen for Georgian Bay steam show COOKSTOWN StaffDa ily parades featuring antique engines an amateur fiddle contest and drag sawing demonstrations will be among the features for the 11th annual show of the Georgian Bay Steam Automotive Gas and Antique Association this coming sum mer Preparations are proceeding for the threeday event which will be held at the Cookstown fairgrounds on Saturday Sunday and Mon day July 31 August and Despite humid weather the show last year attracted 10000 eople and under favorab conditions is ex pected to attract more than ever this year ANTIQUE DISPLAYS Antique displays will be seen daily at the show Log hewing drag sawing and saw millin demonstrations will be hed each day as well There will be parades at pm during all three days of the show Award for the best steam engine in the show last year went to George McKonter of Walkerton for his Robert Bell tractor Bren gun carrier was among other exhibits which received special at tention from thes tators Elmer We ber of Cookstown won first in the an tique car competition for his 1935 Chevrolet which chugged along in oodfashion In thefunior class Jim Mc Chgue Beeton was the win ner driving 1934 halfton In ternational tractor Allan Currans of Stayner came second with his Sawyer Massey steam engine FIDDLE CONTEST The amateur fiddling con test is amongthe specral en tertainment attractions Dwight Lubeniecki of Scar borough was the winning ï¬d dler last year Earl and Martha Heywood of Wingham who made hit with their music last year will be back again The Newton Robinson centennial band was another attraction which was enjoyed last year Wagon rides and miniature train rides were enjoyed by COUNTY GLIMPSES Welfare estimates show higher costs MIDHURla was against the 33 member municipalities The city of Barrie administers its own welfare The approved gross cost last year amounted to $139994752 The main cost is ï¬nanced by the government with the countys share about 20per cent The net cost to the county was calculated at $376467 and to the city of Orillia $7517115 Total cost of social services including supplementary aid day care services
