earlybird players already have been out testing their swings despite the cool air and wet grounds Judging from early preparations go is headed for its busiest season yet for this pular participant sport The Barrie Golf and Country clu course on Vincent road scene of the Peter Jackson tournament last summer will be the site of more exciting events which will be testing the skill of some of the better golfers this coming season Outside of Barrie there is no lack of golf preparations At nearby Shanty Bay Tom Bell and Bruce Gapp were leaders last year while Jane Young captured the ladies title At Medontes Bonaire course young Roy Copeland of Vic toria Harbour and 16yearold Sue Peterson are expected to defend the mens and womens championships they won in keen competition last year Veteran golfer Howard Robinson former champion will be making another valiant try after reaching the finals last year The Simcoeside course at Oro also has been the scene of early organization with emphasis on tournament play as well as club championships Norman Joslin took the title last year when fourtimes champion Roy Austin of Barrie was unable to compete due to illness Ev Armstrong of Orillia won the womens laurels while Jeff Jongmans of Barrie captured the low score trophy The Jack Treloar trophy event often considered the seasons highlight at this course was won by Larry Ireland with Mel Wells of Orangeville and Jeffy Jongmans tied for second previous winner Don Drever finished fifth with Bill Ireland father of Larry fourth At Lake St George club in the north eastern section of the county Fred McLean has been telling of the improved faclities for some weeks and indications point to another outstanding season Jack Rayfield who won the Shanty Bay mens title six times is among the leading players at Lake St George The latter also is to be the scene of the six th annual Balmy Beach tournament in June with former Barrie player George Ford head of the committee in charge GOLF ATTRACTIONS IN ANGUS AREA There promises to be plenty of exciting golf action in the Angus area again this year Golf pro Marty Baker will be active at Royal Downs Golf and Country club off Highway 90 on the Seventh Line of Essa where Tim Hand and Charles Stewart are the new owners The 18 hole course has an attractive par 70 layout and new attractions planned include swimming pool and three ten nis courts The Green Acres parthree course has been the scene of much golf action in recent years and will be again There were some 114 entries in the parthree championship com petition last year when Dennis Taylor emerged the winner Low net honors were won by Wally Harris who made an ex citing hole in one on No green Marj Hickling annexed the womens title and Paul Valancourt the junior honors The Circle Pine golf course at Base Borden is another popular golf centre which also will be the site of more ex citing action this year Former pro at Collingwood Blue Mountain course Ed Leeder will be guiding activities at Couchiching Golf and Country club at Orillia where his son Ross will be giving plrobinstriiction Ed used to operate the Lake St George At the popular Horseshoe Valley recreation centre the scene has shifted from winter skiing to golf action already Numerous golfers have been tuning up on the challenging 18hole course during the past few days The official opening at Horseshoe course was yesterday We will now be open for the rest of the season said Rod Code stating that early interest has shown an increase in membership We feel that with all the new additions including the pro shop and carts we can give the members something for their money Code added TERRIERS PLANNING FOR NEXT SEASON Orillia Terriers are currently making plans for another try at regaining the Allan cup during the 197677 season We are looking around to see what players are available said George Maconachie president pointing out Orillia will be again represented in senior hockey next Winter An executive meeting to discuss plans for next season was held at the Orillia community centre on Thursday night and an open invitation was extended to persons interested to helping the team Orillias to open the best of seven playoff series with the Durham Walkerton Huskies winners of the Continental Senior league Flyers won 54 led by Paul Regans pair of goals The series continues tonight at the Barrie Arena then back in Walkerton Sunday game night is the diet for the Flyers and Huskies until winner is declared From there its another step League championship with 34 win There was little time
