dont want people to feel that they can completely depend on Canada Manpower to find job for them he says No one can get job except the person himself To help clients find work by looking beyond the job cards at the centre Manpower officials dfer weekly technique in creative job search technique designed to teach applicants how to find the four per cent of jobs in the community which are vacant at any given time Mr Wood says graduates of the course experience con siderably higher rate of job hunting success than other clients The 90minute course is held each Tuesday at pm An op tional reinforcement session is held week later but not every student shows uppartly because some have found jobs in the meantime One girl went out and ap plied for job about an hour and half after the course and she got it right off the bat says counsellor Rob Alexander who has been administering the course Counsellor Suzanne Brunnelle is to take over the course next week SEMINAR SETTING Jobseeking techniques are to get ajob discussed in seminar setting during the course Its not passive thing where they just sit and watch says Mr Wood They par ticipate actively Methods of finding job openings manager of the centre said that Mr Wood will be responsible for the coordination of an effective employer services program among other duties Many employers do not realize the full range of ser vices portunities to address employer groups service clubs etc to explain the scope of services of fered by the Canada Manpower Centre His duties will also include those of training liaison coun sellor for trainees attending courses sponsored under the Canada Manpower Training Plan coordinator and liaison counsellor for the Student Sum mer Employment and Ac tivities Program as well as production and give later Suffice it to say that things are really humming here at Eastview this term with wide and varied assortment of activities in full swing Some like the Yearbook and Outward Bound have been going since last fall while others like Track and Field and Rugby arejust gearing up now Field trips that were planned several months ago are finally taking place and though were still being inundated with lot of homework theres great deal of fun this term too The yearbook successfully met all its deadlines and was sent to the publisher several weeks ago Youll probably get your hands on copy sometime in June in plenty of time to get autographs from all your frien ds The great big ThankYou should go out to the Editors of this bookInderjit Gill Marianne Yakichuk and Carol Paris for all the long hours and hard work theyve put into this years edition But even with their work the book wouldnt have even got off the ground without the guidance and supervision of Mr Mike Man sour the yearbooks staff of the book know the work he lid and Im sure theyd be the first ones to agree with me that Mr Man sour has once again done marvellous job On second thought maybe we should reserve judgement until AF TER weve seen the bookY All year long the yearbook staff has been holding fund raising activities to reduce the price of the book to $4 Their latest and greatest en deavor was the busy that evening The Student ouncil Elec tion is also upcoming at the end of this month Election Day will be Friday April 30 with pre election assembly to take place on the 29th Nominations opened back field amost every day now going through their drills and practice scrimmages With two such enthusiastic groups were sure to add another IBSSA vicr tory to our already long list The Track and Field Team has also just commenced in tensive training though there is small core of dedicated athletes who began training shortly after hristmas With GENERAL EASTVIEW OPEN OISE Eastview Secondary School is opening its doors to everyone Wednesday April 11 between 730 pm and 930 pm for the annual open house All depart ments in the school will be represented with examples of classroom activities
