Flyers to make costly mistakes Twins jumped into 31 lead in the first period with Barrie coming back in the second to take 54 lead Bill McDonald scored for Thunder Bay at 627 of the third period and the game went into overtime Flyers have not played well in the opening matches They peared handcuffed by the osechecking and skating of the Twins After the game Adams con firmed that the Flyers would have to get back to their own game in Thunder Bay We went out as if we expected somebody else to do it com mented the Flyers veteran It was Adams who did it finally Flyers looked to have the game in hand in the final moments of the third riod Doug Acomb was pulle down while breaking in on Turko to give Barrie man advantage Although Barrie pressed no goal came their way It was Adams keeping the puck in Twins end in the over time period which led to his goal He took the loose puck and worked himself in front of ero where his low backhand beat the goaltender to his stick side It was my fault said Turko of Adams gamewinner You see he was out in the slot and he had it on his backhand thought he was going around the defenceman and around the net to pass it out to somebody in the open had to go with him Instead Adams let loose and scored His shot was too fast it was good goal said Turko Paul Regan scored two goals for Barrie with Jim Thompson Bob Baird and Doug Acomb ad ding singles Thunder Bay got pair of goals from Ken Camp bell and singles from Gary Linquist McDonald and Jack Byerley Regan opened the scoring with his persistence rebounding around Turko early in the first period Twins came back on two goals by Campbell and Lin qiist Thunder Bay jumped on ear ly miscues by Flyers to take the lead The 1500 fans at the game began to reflect on Mon days game when similar push by Thunder Bay propelled the defending Allan Cup cham pions into 40 lead in the first period Grant Cole started but came out of the game after Twins third goal of the first period Coming in unexpected is always unnerving confirmed Ron Patterson after the game Cole did not look sharp in the early portions of both games he started He was hampered ear ly in the game by defence which threw away the puck with an abandon unlike the Flyers which finished in first place of the senior league Linquist was given the puck for clear shot and goal at Cole Twins managed series of twoonone even threeon one breaks Thats how Camp bell worked himself into posi tion to pop home rebound late in the opening period As Patterson remarked If the Ladys not with you Patterson was key performer for Barrie last night Flyers did outshoot Twins 4846 But it was in the thid period with Flyers two men short for two full minutes that Patterson earned his keep Barries powerplay was inef fective early in the game Flyers failed to score with Thunder Bay twomen short in the first period Perhaps the turning point of the game was Shorthanded marker by Baird at 1227 of the second period The goal seemed to ignite the Flyers Regan then Acomb scored to give Flyers the edge Defenceman Jim Thompson drilled shot off defender which went by Turko at the 15 second mark of the second period to start the Barrie spree You dont mind losing on something like that Adams goal said Turko That first one in the second period would have hated to lose on something like that Scoring summary FIRST PERIOD Flyers Regan
