1975 expenditures CHILDRENS AID The sum of $172089 was listed as the net cost to the county payable to the Childrens Aid Society in 12 equal payments This was down from $297065 approved for last year but was the amount requested Under legislation enacted last year the provincial sub sidy to the Childrens Aid Society has been increased to 80 per cent which resulted in the saving to the countyThe life opened last November Its hardly long enough to judge the success of the project but one of the workers John Meston says Were all really fond of the house They havent had runaway yet The city helped find the four bedroom house and paid for the needed repairs Donations from businesses and individuals pro vided furniture and ther neces sities The boys are placed in the home as part of the provincial fostercare unit plan generally from three to 12 months We look for boys who have problems with their home envi ronment Mr Meston said The goal is to integrate them into cooperative living and eventually enable them to re turn to their own homes or boarding schools or foster homes Each boy is carefully screened to ensure his presence in the house will not threaten the neighborhood or the house itself social worker sleeps in the house every night and the four Grant MacEwan graduates spend each day working with the boys Mr Meston said residents participate in running the house The boys attend neigh borhood schools One night week is designated group night for house meetings and discussion ounselling extends beyond individual sessions with the boys to members of their fami lies
