LOThe Barrie Examiner Tuesday March 23 I976 SPORTS CORNER JuniorB loop may have new look There were trade winds blowing at the end of the MidOntario Junior Hockey League schedule indicating things would be different next year First Collingwood Blues announced their intention to seek Junior status and depart from the junior loop It was learn ed that Midland Flyers were considering similan route while the Barrie Colts were pondering somewhat along the aame lines There may be drastic changes next season At league meeting earlier this week it was decided that letter be sent to the seven clubs of the Central Ontario Junior league asking for meeting April 23 at Torontos Royal York Hotel Pur se of this meeting is to discuss the possibility of an in terloc ing schedule between the clubs of the MidOntario lea gue and their cousins in the Central loop Brampton Burlington Dixie Bees Georgetown Milton Oakville and Streetville are the teams in the Central League Streetsville climbed into the champions seat and are currently involved in playoff action Of course Collin gwood Blues are up to their neck in quarter ï¬nal playoff action but quite comfortably so as Blues hold 20 lead in the best of seven series If successful the venture could be blessing to junior hockey in the area Quite honestly with the exception of possibly the Blues the teams of the MidOntario Junior league were hurt at the gates One reason may be the dullness associated with seeing the same teams play over and over again Bringing new blood into the arenas may be just the shot the league needs There was motion come out of the meeting that the group file vote of confidence for league convener Don Lowe The four clubs which were represented at the meeting plan to send letter to the Ontario Hockey Association to that effect There has been occasion this past season when Lowe had to come down rather heavily on what he considered flagrant abuse of the league rules Most noteably was the dispute between Midland and Calling wood That missed game by the Blues ended with the club reaching into its pockets for $910 and wiping eg for their face LEGION HOCKEY WRAPS UP SEASON Saturday was busy day for the Barrie Legion Minor Hockey League It started early and ended late at the Barrie Arena as the various divisions settled once and for all arguments over which teams was better In some cases it was hard to tell In other cases it was hard to hear as th vocal support given the youngsters by spectators put to sha any thing heard along lives of support to date at the Barrie Arena Other minor hockey action over the weekend saw the Green and Ross Generals skate to championship of the York Simcoe Minor Hockey League minor bantam division It was an amazing season for the Generals In their rookie season of regular league competition the Generals not only finished in first place and eventually took the title they suf fered one loss throughout league and playoff competition And that was to Schomberg Spirit appeared to be the one big plus for the Generals this season Under coach Hugh Knowles the club won 34 games lost 10 and tied four for the year PLACE YOUR BETS FOR THE FINALS The deeper you get into the playoffs the more convinced you become of final confrontation between Barrie and Thunder Bay Twins for the championship of the OHA Senior league Flyers have set out to make mincemeat of the words of Napanee coach Walter Gerow who predicted close series and one which would go to the limit of seven games Barrie holds 20 lead heading into Thursdays game at the Barrie Arena There is more than slight possibility Flyers could wrap the series up in Napanee on Saturday While most everyone picks Barrie to oust Napanee Thunder Bay Twins seem likely candidates to knock off Cambridge Hornets Both Twins and Hornets emerged unscathed from quarter final play and are scheduled to meet sometime this week in the start of the semifinal series CORNER VIEWS The upcoming ladies hockey tournament at
