Staff Reporter Mans religious hopes and vi sions must die and be reborn through the intervention of God before they can succeed Rev Carl Bull of Barries Free Methodist Church told Lenten service Tuesday at Collier Street United Church God starts by giving us the birth of vision but then it seems to fall apart Mr Bull told the congregation at the noonhour service At this point he said the human response is to say in my own power and strength can work this out but that isnt the answer Instead he said our hopes and visions must be reborn through supernatural means During Christs earthly ministry Mr Bull said His disciples watched Him raise the dead heal the sick multiply fish and bread ant perform other miracles antl heard Him speak with divine authority As result he said they were saying nothing can stop us nowv weve got it made But if the disciples had been allowed to continue in this vein without meeting the death of their dreams he said they would have approached the Christian message in an entire ly wrong spirit they would not have been the people lie needed DREAM DIED But this dream died when Jesus died on the cross and was sealed in tomb Mr Bull said Im sure that was the last nail in the coffin of their dreams They were finished hesaid But Christs resurrection restored the disciples dreams anti completely changed their lives Mr Bull said The vision came back but it came back through super natural means he said The greatest proof of the resurrec tion was the change in the disciples lives Before his sermon Mr Bull accepted an invitation from Rev William Fritz Collier Street pastor to explain to the congregation the background of the Free Methodist church Mr Fritz noted that Collier Street Church had been Methodist before the formation of the Unitctl Church in 1925 but had never claimed to be free Mr Bull said the word free applied to his denominations historic opposition to slavery in the United States its failure to REV Altl lllll charge pew rental in days when that was the practice in some other churches and its belief in freedom of the Holy Spirit in worship Free Methodists do not run up and down the aisles during wor ship he said
