Horticultural Society plus one from Trinity Church Mens Club travelled to the Toronto Garden Club to its 22nd and largest yet Spring Flower and Garden Show held at the Automotive Bldg in the CNE grouds Among those who came with us were hor ticultural members from oll ingwood Vespra ro Elmvale Midland Orillia Thornton and Painswick It was day to be remembered and relished each time one recalls the visit This writer has followed each show as it moved from Casa Loma to OKeefe to the Royal Ontario Museum back to OKeefe and now to much larger and more appropriate setting in the Automotive Bldg There was just far too much for the space allotted this writer to comment on Because of the added space the commer cail exhibits were much ex panded there was room to get around and view them and even sit now and then There were also many more of them and everyone was so good youd just hate to be thejudge Truthfully didnt get to see all the ex hibits because lingered too long at some that took my fan cy It would really take two days to seeitall On the main floor an En vironmental Kitchen spon sored by McDonalds was especially interesting It featured all kinds of growing herbs in planters beautiful specimen plants including one lovely shrimp plant and clematis new to me called Bar bara Debley Clargreen Gardens had more orchids than weve seen since the days when Dales of Bramp ton held an orchid festival They also featured lovely tropical specimens with various crotons making real splash SPECTACULAR Woodland Nurseries of Mississauga had spectacular display that won the Minerva Castle Award Leslie Salty Award and Memorial Trophy It had some beautiful flowering shrubs as well as many azaleas and rhododendrons Saltys themselves had display that won three awards The local society is trying to get people to try growing caladiums If they had seen the Eric Jensen display of these lovely foliage plants it would have helped They also had lovely blue hydrangeas and azaleas Etobicokes parks did garden around the bandstand All the spring bulbs in great profusion were certainly welcome sight The Toronto Garden Cljb had made numerous of its own gardens Can you imagine sit ting on park bench with coffee and the fragance of hun dreds of hyacinths in planters around you loading the air with their perfume Snack bars were plentiful service was good and food reasonable There was also restaurant Toronto Trust Cemeteries whose greenhouses we visit on tour sometimes had lovely display featuring many hang ing baskets formal beds shrubs evergreens and brick walks with crushed brick for ground cover in the walks White Rose Craft and Nursery was first prize win ner featuring rosesllilies and gerbera jamesonii in abun dance WILD GARDEN loved the wild garden spon sored by SimpsonSears coma lcte with walk across ridge where you could almost think you were out beside local country creek There tree toads and bird sounds old fallen trees with fungus mossy walks where maidenhair and other ferns grew Jackirrthe Pulpit marsh marigolds May apples mullein hepatica violets and lots of trilliums were growing There was vegetable garden with several varieties of tomatoes and all the familiar garden vegetables in rows and rows The Junior Gardeners work was delight to all and gave heart to we who worry about our youth The Civic Garden Centre had impressive book display The new Director of the Civic Garden Centre Gordon Brackett was present and was pleased to meet him He said the renovations at Civic Garden Centre are progressing very well so well likely have tour there for the new opening We were glad to meet with so many affiliate groups like Iris Society Geranium Society and Announcement Robert Armstrong President Robert Armstrong Limited Realtor takes pleasure in announcing the appointment of Mr Ken neth LeFeuvere as Mortgage Manager of Armstrong Mortgage Services DIvrsion of Robert Armstrong Limited Mr LeFeuvurr is graduate of Midland and District High School and The tn iernotlonol Accountants Socrety Upon graduation Mr LeFeuvere was associated wrth the Trrrri to Dominion Bonk Mr LeFewere has functioned for the past l3 years within all Services Management Mortgage Accounting and Administration Mott recently Mr LeFeuvere was Manager of the Newmarkot Offt Victoria and Grey Trust Company phases of Trust Company The Armstrong Mortgage Services Division wrth Head Offrre at the newly acqurred and renovated administration burlrlmg in Newmarket provides all phases of Mortgage Services to each of the firms offices Ken his wife Marlene Newmarket and their two children reside in Royal Botanical Gardens They were all there Bardomatic and Roto Crop accelerator Compost marker had displays There were several greenhouse suppliers with ex hibits Reeves of lslington had large display of plants for sale They are going into the craft business like White Rose and holding Craft Show Sat Mar 27 am to pm and Sunday Mar 28 it am to pm to which we were invited There were photographic displays by numerous hor ticultural societies including Barrie The open horticultural classes were most intercsting with their special classes There was art and music and the scent of countless flowers and people galore Congratulations once more to all the ladies and exhibitors of the Toronto Garden Club for this Spring Tonic Heard Gary Stoncr on KBB invite
