Sir We have made thorough examination of the Arena premises on Elizabeth Street respect inK healing system with view to determining the cause of the trouble experienced in adquately heating the building We summame our observations as follows BOILER The boiler as installed is quite inadequate to generate sufficient steam for the heating loads imposed II is not ttilliiiiled With any means or mechanical firing hence due to its consider able number of sections qirlte inefficient In Operation The boiler is located in the Compres sor Room which indeed is fret good practice and should be definitely relocated away from this equipment In Its present location it is about 14 from the wood floor structure above which is in direct contravention to the safety requirements of the Inspectimr Department of the Ont ario Department of Labour This can readily be appreciated when one considers the hazard to public safety should fire or explosion occur SUGGESTIONS The north west corner of the mount building could lie excavated and underpinned to place new boiler and coal bin within the present building under the present floor The above recommendations together with other minor alterations Barrie Arena In the interest of Public safety itis essential that the compressor and boiler rooms be sep arated by fire resistant wall or partition and that openingto the public spaces of the arena be seabed off withtithittingfire tresistunt doors of the self closing typeAsan alternative the boilerflacket heater or any other open flame device may be housed in separate room built adjacent to or remote from the compressor room An emergency switch to stop the operation of the compressor in emergency together with valve for the emergency release of the ammonia change should be fitted outside the compres sor room wait out of reach of unauthorized persons in glass fronted box painted red To minimize corrosion of the material of the steel support which has its footing in the snow pit we rebuest that it be protected by con crete reinforcing at the baseup to high Theabovc requests and those containedin our earlier letter copy of which is attached are based on sound practice and are in
