BLACK Library Club Compiles Helpful Card Catalogue By LESLIE COXALL North Collegiate Last week at the Commer cial Club the members enjoy ed an informative talk given by Mr Nelson at the Bell Telephone Co in Barrie Mr Nelson the Personnel Manager of the Barrie office began his speech by answering the ques tion of what is expected of secretary and went on to tell of the place of it secretary in the Bell offices He also ex plained the positions for commercial students in the offices oi the Bell Telephone Co and the ways of progres sing In these offices His spe ech was very much enioyed by all members The commercial club mem bers are wearing their club pins which are the replica of typewriter with the year attached ISCF The ISCF meeting began last week with sing of fav orite religious and spiritual tunes led by Beryl Hesketh and accompanied by Lynda Tracey playing the piano The guest speaker was Archdeacon Allan Read rcctor oi Trin Ity Anglican Church in Barrie He gave talk on Lent its meaning its origin how it fits Into the Church year and what it involves As usual he Illustrated his talk with headings on the blackboards and he also told true accounts ot peoples lives including the story of the twins to make clear part icular part of his speech DRAMA CLUB Friday night was the time for the Drama Club party it was held at the home of Jean Peden and everyone had good time twisting and danc ing On Friday night April 13 the Drama Club will be spon soring theatre night during which plays will be presented by club members When you walk into the lib rary at North one doesnt realize Kelly Joe Saso and Mike Col lins wrote an international Math paper last Thursday It was an ordeal of sort and they naturally hadaome mis givings about the outcome However they readily conceded that it was an interesting and challenging experience When the results can be obtained well let you know who is the top mathematician at st Jos ephs An All Star lunior basket ball team chosen from the in termural league of St Josephs played the Senior basketball teamin fastmoving game last Friday Even though the Seniors won 4623 the Junior boys put up tremendous fight if this game is any in dication of what these young er tellows can do St Joes does not have many worries about future basketball teams The places vacated on the Sen ior team by those graduating this year should be adequately filled by these Juniors as they move up MEET MIDLAND At last the girls Senior volleyball team of St Josephs will play game against the Midland Senior girls team The contest has been in the offing on several occasions but unfor seen incidents have brought about cancellations each time However the girls will play Midland Wednesday this week Best of Luck to you girls youve waited long time and as the late for the Barrie Contest We previously mention ed the names of the students who will represent St Joes at this meet and would like to renew our wishes for success The winner of this contest which will be held in St Jos ephs Auditorium will go to Colgan Ontario to compete with other District winners We go all the way One oi the boys who will speak in the Knights oi Col or two ahead ot him After this contest he will go to Col lingwood Collegiate on March 23 to speak in Lions Club District Final oratorleal lan has won many previous cons tests and we hope that he may win this one with simil ar case To end on sweet note the Junior class at St Josephs is planning candy sale for this Friday They hope to earn some money for support of the missions What this selling of candy will do to those resolv members of the Library Club Although the library is not great size because of the new ness of the school over 1500 books have been entered in it This year with the old of the 40 members of the club the card catalogue has been com pleted This is great asset to the Library and enables students to find books quickly and easily The Library Club also sup erviscs the circulation of books throughout the school and It is found that on the average there are 1200 hooks per month in circulation As well as looking after the books In the Library club members find time to enioy the several bowling parties which were organized this year The president of this years club is Elaine Sponagla and the secretary is Linda Henning Thanks to Mrs Walton the librarian this club has devel oped into real trophy she won in short hsnd competition in Orillia last week Last Friday Mrs Couptand and several students iourneyed to Toronto to compete to the Association at Contest held at Northern Secondary School Sandra Carson tied for sec ond place In this Shorthand Competition with score at as against as other students who were all representing Tor onto schools As each school wants the best representatives to attend this contest the competition rates high among commercial students and they are worthy of commendation ln Orillia because of the forethought or Mrs Coupland of Central Collegiatepthero was first district competition of this same type as the Toronto Competitions In fact this years contest will probably set precedent for years to come The subiccts for competition were shorthand mathematics spelling and typing Sandra Carson captured first place in senior shorthand and received trophy from the Esterbrook Company and book from the Pitman Comp any Also winning from Barrie Central were Sylvia Gable who placed second in junior short hand and Micheline Viel who placed third Given For Shorthand in senior typing Donna Wood ward came hint and Alan Cameron came lecond in Arith metic These students have done cr ceptinnstly well in competi tion of sixty other students and were good ambassadors from Central OAC VISIT The Honor Society with of its members made its sec ond annual trip and this year found them at The Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph On their arrival at 0AC they were met by former Cen tralites Paul Lennon and Wayne Martin who are both in their 0AC Also at senior assembly Mr Bowman showed the trophies and awards to the students that the hand has won In re cent competitions lncluded was trophy re ceived from the Band Direct ors Association who held clinic at Waterloo The Barrie Collegiate Band under the dir ection of Mr Fisher was asked to play two hour concert as an illustrative band with professional performers from the Toronto
