as much as formerly The development of the pro gram from class in one neigh borhood with 30 children is years ago to 57 with over 3500 pupils last year was explain ad by Louise Coilcy director of the county recreation service Different ways of organizing those classes range from small committee depending al most entireiy on the county service to committees which hire and supervise their own staff and only occasionally call on the county for advice question from the audience about the expense of the county swimming lessons per pupil brought several to their feet with examples of the cost be ing much less than in Toronto or other large cities $8000 LESS Herb Hughes past chairman of the board reported on sev eral proposals which it had studied The revenue from the county council for 1962 is $8000 less than expected This along with the rapidly increasing de mands from various organiza tions and municipalities in the county has placed real strain on the service and staff In the past the county recrea tion service has covered the post of organization and ad Chippewas Take Lawyer Off Case SARNIA OPiThe Chippewa Indian band council has asked its lawyer to withdraw from the case but it cancelled the sale when Dimensional failed to make the deadline for the final $4000000 payment The action is dormant at this moment but we are waiting for the right time to take it up again Mr Plain said The bands solicitor John Mcv Eachran of Sarnia said Thurs day he received lr from the band asking him to return $2000 retainer fee Mr Williams noted that the band voted to go ahead ith the action He said the council can not overrule this and thus has notpassed motion to stop the action He said no other solicitor has been retained ministration of the swimming classes and day camps along with leadership and advice This same service is given to other groups and programs The board now recommends that the swimming and day camp committees assume as much as possible the responsi bility for financing the organi zation and administration as well as the cost of their staff and other requirements The board also recommended that the local committees contact their municipal council for fin question of why more staff is needed it is because of the many de mands from new areas rather than for more attention to those already using the county scr Vice The increased demands are result of population increase changes in the community and growing desire by volunteer workers in community organi zations to seek professional ad vice to strengthen their organi zational efforts The meeting was organized into discussion groups to list the problems and seek solu tions The reports showed that many anticipated lack of sym pathy from their council mem bers and some suggested con tacting service clubs In general it was agreed that the municipal council should be more concerned than service clubs in providing adequate fin snces However the feeling that service clubs would find no difficulty in obtaining mon ey strengthened the opinion that the municipal council could also find the money It was emphasized that to creation is becoming an import ant industry in Simcoe County
