as many as live times in two year period The clinics csuid not rate without these con scientous people tic added Then are many citizens in Barrie who have never been to clinic in this group are those who are unable to come because of previous medical histories of Jaundlce malaria tuberculosis and heart conditions In this grou oiso are those who do not res izc that if blood in not freely and voluntarily given there will bcao blood at the hospital for them when they may desperately need it The Royal Victoria Hospital is in sense district hospi tal in that it serves wide rural area surrounding the city of Barrie check with the hospital reveals that to par cent of their patients come from the rural areas further check with the blood donor lil es shows that only very rmall percentage of donors are from the country This does not in clude lhosc workinf in industry in the city but lvtng outside it So at the present tlml the urbnnfopulallon il carrying Ihe load or the rural they have con structch and they hope pro ductive program which should help writers and potential writ ers in Barrie and surrounding district Thirteen persons attended When arrived members were reading their own poetry At each meeting there is project and these poems were the re quirements for this meeting Some of this poetry was good some of it was not but these are only training schemes and poetry is one of the must diffi cult mediums of expression Many of the poems metrical movements were erratic and the mulority followed the AAvBS rhyme la the mlxedup lines which ranged from iambic tri meter to trochalc hexameier could detect some poetic skill This flair for poetry showed in the work of Iris Val ley Who has published some of her work ASKS ouasrmus asked questions as soon as the poetry writing gave them greater appreciation of liter aturc they would be satisfied However all the group said they considered writing as means or possible means of earning additional income and again all the group said they would like to make writing fulltime car eer Within the group there are professional people as well as busy housewives Their ages range from those in their early thirties to those in their late titles or early sixties As the meeting continued the members discussed the possi bility of writing play as group but it was decided one member could do this better and the others assist play was written it might be possible to find some local dra matic group which would pro duce it The 5200 mm Schol nrshlp award for Ontario writ ers was also discussed and 5ch cral members said that they hoped to enter story for Ibis award Lastly there was brief talk about the preparation of TV script the rights of the author and the fees paid for such works Perhaps the writer with the most However she has been inactive in the writing field for several years but now that she has become member of the club she ex pects to resume her writing again MANY WRITING There are many persons in famous writer is Earl Cox CBCTV fame whose weekly gardening show in known across Canada What can writers club sc complish in Barrie They can accomplish nothing or they can accomplish great deal it all depends on the members As watched this group in action as listened as talked to them these thoughts were in my mind To those who had no experience with writing it might have appeared on if they were wasting their time but no one can point and say here is writer or there is writer or this one will never be writer Most people need help and encouragement and work ing as group in such club will be helpful to idiom Some writers literally leap into prominence Arthur llalley oi llighi into Dongcr fame is one of these Other writers such as the poet Emily Dickinson who lab ored all her life and had only three poems published yet to day is considered one of Am ericas finest poets in an exam ple at the other extreme As result of this Writers Club if only one writer of some skill was developed in the next 20 years then they would have accomplished great deal not only for Barrie not only for Canada but for the world at large DEATHS By THE CANADIAN PRESS Ottawa George Hambleton no veteran
