Tlfl BARBIE EXAMINER MONDAY MARCH 62 DID HE CALL THE SHOT TYPE By STEVE JONESCU Sports Editor With the weekend so chuckfull of sporting activit ies it wasnt until late last night that was able to sit back and think about just exactly what did go on Then quick as flash it hit me was in Alliston Saturday covering the AilOntario Girls Hockey Tour nament also helped judge the beauty contest There too was Smith star forward of Barrie Bay City Falcons Falconshad they lost it would be finis for game the next day If year During our interrupted conversation Smitty said something like this We should win at least one of the games Remember this is said after the Falcons had dropped three in row to Meaford CheVies Little else was said between us Then came Sunday Along with Ray Gariepy Don Rich Bob Garner Chuck Edward and Gerry Mc Bride Smitty sparked the Falcons to 64 overtime win He did it in his usual fine stickliandllng style He added bit of roughness taking his man into the boards just little harder than usual etc its odd didnt think of the conversation dur ing the game Al must have meant that Sundays game was one not the one the club was going to win He and the other fellows played like they had the same intentions And that dear friends is how hockey games are won For Smith whom you almost have to bribe to get to smile this was just another of his great efforts Hes been doing it all year and going almost unnoticed Thats probably because he isnt rock em sock em hype Maybe he remembered that hed received pen alties in successive games for little or no reason He may have thought hed please the offc1als if he did get tough Whatever the case he was ball of fire yesterday and penaltyiess Heck hes picked up Six minutes in sentences in about 40 minutes The rest of the club didnt lay back on the couch either It was great effort by fine club it was one that the fans expected all along It was the typ eof game the guys played through the first half of the 8935011 it was games like these that prompted most pre season guessperts to pick Falcons as top team in the league It was also the reason Collingwoqd Shipbuild ers decided to go with Midland Flyers in the other semifinal series Shipbuiiders knew Falcons were good team Whether or not Falcons will be up for Fridays game at Meaford is something no one can predict did predict Falcons would win the series swallowed that one too after three straight losses Winning tour in row has been proven to be any thing but impossible Can Falcons do it Who knows It would be hard to beat club that played as it did yesterday If that effort should be overshadowed then who can complain Whats in the offing for Friday Smitty HO Hubs Take Share Of Second By CANADIAN PRESS The combination of Hull0t tawa Cnnadiens victory and fa
