PARTICIPATE In the early war years Gord on ngman Scouimastcr and Gordon Reeve assistant estalr lished camps on the Barrie Commons in the Cook Street vicinity and at Big Bay Point In the ensuing years the growth of Scouting was in dir ect ratio to the number of lead ers to he tound Groups were started as adults offered their services and faded when they dropped out By 1936 three Groups were active in the town and to co ordinate and service these Local Association was formed with Simpson as president and George lfolloway as Dist rict Commissioner year or so later the As sociation purchased hundred acre campsite at Ossassane Beach Georgian Bay With the exception oi year or two when gasoline rationing made transportation difficult the camp has been used by Cubs rind Scouts Irom Barrie and three registered Troops had dwindled to combined membership of lwcntyvthrcc Scouts and it was decided to amalgamate them temporarily into one Troop With occassional local help and assistance from they have become cosponsors of the Bar rio Winter Carnival sponsors swick Iiiidhurst and others have come in to form the now Kem Bay District Total membership in the enlarged District now stands at 738 Cubs Scouts and Rovers with 72 lead ers Through the on Scouts from this area have been sel ected to attend World Jambore es in France Austria England and tha United States Barrie Post Office
