following complaint by Mr and Mrs Thomas Miles 249 Dunlap Street who were dissatisfied with prices charged for repair work done in their residence investigation by po lice turned up an additional complainant in the person of Miss Georgina Campbell sot pump Street OFFERED TO FIX CRACKS Evidence by hiiss Campbell was to the effect one man had approached her when she re sides in her older sisters home with an offer to rcpoir masonry cracks for $2 $16 told court the repair work began the fol lowing day and that soon after work started she was informed one of the chimneys on the house was also in need of re pair The witness claimed that still later she was informed by one workman that capping blocks on the chimneys Were illegal She said that while taking one of these blocks off the edge was broken off one of the chimneys and she was told the chimney had to be rebuilt ORDERED WORK STOPPED Miss Campbell said that still later when she noticed one of the chimneys had almost been torn down to the roof line she had ordered the work stopped The witness said three men had returned the nut day with materials and rebuilt the ddmlt pelt She told the court when the wnrk was finished she was pre senied with bill for $100 and some dollars She said she complained of the amount and after some discussion the bill was reduced to ml Mrs Thomas nliies told the court that man had come to her door and told her he had noticed that corner of her home was in need of repair and altered to do the work for 510 Employers Ilse NES More Employers in the Barrie area are making greater use of the National Employment Service to fill jobs according to semi annual report released today by the Barrie NES office The report which covers Sept 1960 to Feb 20 1561 showcd that employers in Bar rie and area referred 1130 va cancies to the local employ ment office Of these the NES filled 1066 95 per cent of the total City employers asked the service to find applicants for 260 jobs Ninhtysix per cent of those va cancies were filled The 260 vacancies referred to the service by Barrie employ ers represents 25 per cent of the 1026 jobs filled in Barrie in the sixmonth period covered by the report This is an in crease oi five per cent in vow cancics handled by the employ ment service over the previous sixmonth period TOBACCO HELPED Freak Storms Hinder Craps Many Simeoe County farm crops have been hindered by freak summer storms George Arnold assistant agricultural representative for South Sim coe said today The overall agricultural pic ture is favorable but there is definitely lot of windtwisted wheat and the haying is quite slow due to heavy rainfa Although heavy rainfall has hindered some crops it has benefitted the tobacco farmers There are about 50 tobacco farmers in Simcoa County and the majority of these work around Allistoa and New Low ell Tobacco crops in Simcoe County appear quite promising this year Many growers re port excellent crops throughout the area The abundant rain fall has certainly been respon sible in part for these favorable conditions Few oi the tobacco areas have been hit by summer storms and if this good fortune continues farmers should reap bountiful harvest this tall Mr Arnold said Barrie Youths on Probation Far Breaking And Entry Counts Two Barrie youths John Meyer 19 and Barry Lemay 17 pleaded guilty inBarrie Magistrates Court yesterday to three charges of breaking and entering Both were given one years suspended sentence and placed on probation by Magistrate Howett Meyer and Lemay pleaded guilty to entering the premises of the Barrie Country Club Mineslng Motors and Clover Valley Supermarket Guilty pleas were also enter ed by Terrance Hardy Alfred Legacy and Vincent Miller in answer to drarge of theft of two office computing machines fromthe premises of Kolrna Wilkins police commission hearing Magistrate Howett sentenced Legacy and Hardy to two months in jail and Miller re ceived one years suspended sentence and that the bill was mark ed paid in full Charles Griffin local build ing contractor testified that be inspected the premises in question and the work that was done and found it to be fairly satisfactory He told the court that he would estimate the cost of work done at the Campbell residence to be worth $85 or $90 and that to the Miles resi dence to be worth in the neigh borhood of $200 to $225
