HARRIS EXAMINER WAY JULY ll By STEVE JONESCU Sports Editor N0 KISS THIS TIME Its often been said that the title of this column be changed from Sporg Type to Kiss of Death Why Because we have the habit of constructing the Empire state Building just before the Wreckers move in Example Last week or was it the week before we wrote glowing account of the progress and suc cuses of Bristows Plumbing and Heating then the leading team in the Barrie and District softball Lea gue You can guess what happened Bristows lost doozer that same night We were reminded of the column Example Two years ago we wrote that certain hockey club was shooln to cop second place in the standings The team played lousy game that night and again we heard the kissing bit Its happened many times before and since satur day we wrote glowineg about the golf Exploits of Jim Small Barrie Country Club champion Sunday Jim was playing in the simcoe County Golf tournament at RGAF Camp Borden when we arrived on the scene he was on the 16th fairway one stroke backuf the leader Tam watsonor collingwood Jims second shot on the hole was lost short of the green Watson went over Watsons chip was nothing spectacular Jim was short with th third shot Wat son took two more to hole in Jim with yours truly standing Just off the green missed an easy putt that could have given him tie with Tom We felt wed done it again However Small sank good putt on the l7bh tie the match Each parIEd the 18th and as you read on these pages yesterday Small won the match on the extra hole We have to admit we felt much better on the way home For change our kissin column didnt smack unkindly AUTHORITY RULES Since the match we learned of the ruling when player plays wrong bail We got our information second hand but the first hand is an authority Watson who played thé wrong ball should have can ceded the hole to small Youll remember that Jim told Watson all was okay and the Coilingwood star uould play his right ball if found The gallery too thought it was okay Were told that in match play hitting wrong ball means conceding the hole In medal play hitting wrong ball merely calls for penalty not sure of the number of strokes JUST NOTES George Knudson second high Can adian in the Canadian Open at Winnipeg last week willundoubtedly be favored to winthe ProAm Golf tournament at Barrie Country Club Sunday Hes lust one of number of topgolfera wholl play for prizes while working for the Barrie Athletic associ ation It wasnt with any ill intent that fellow golfers told Doc Haslett that three previous winners of the Cliff Brown
