me name manna ram mun GREth OUTDOORS By WALLY SMITH LOTS OF CHOICE As of midnight Ontario fisheran have wide choice of where to go fishing and what to try for At this time all of the fishing seasons for game fish will be open Vearo not active enough to be back at work or to fish properly but we expect to sit quietly at local river and try our luck all things being equal This shoiild be good year for Bass and with the water temperatures being somewhat backward many male Bass should betaiten in fairly shallow water where they will be still guarding their nests and hungry for any offerings The way peak spawning cycles have been running we should be into some fairsized Bass which hatched about four years ago LOSS 10 CONSERVATION It was certainly with lot more than regret that we heard about the passing of great conservationist the first secretary manager of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters lrcd Richardson An active practising conservationist and true sportsman Fred will be sadly missed by the many friends he made in commotion circles and the great outdoors LEAVES ONE SPEECIILESS The way our friends and neighbours have been doing things for us and offering to do things for us leaves us practically speechlus Our good friend Zeke Firrnan was saying the other day that we must miss getting out and cawiing our fresh fish lie maintained that the next tmut which he caught was going to land in our refrigerator He wasps good as his word coming in with lovely Brown Trout the other night Then in comes another friend and neighbour Don Young with nice feed of Whitefish and another neighbour Bert Lawrence with an offer of helping us finish the boat whcih we have been whittling away at for couple of years This sort of thing makes you suddenly realize that even though we feel that this old world is generally getting worse there are lot of swell folks amund We can still see old Steve lugging that typewriter to and from the hospital so we would not miss column We are literally devouring the wonderful book Nature is your Guidewhich the Barrie Conservation Club so kindly presented us we would recommend it to anyone who is interested in navigation especially every day natural ruleoi thumb navigation and ways of finding your way about which have stood the tests of time before the days of compasses sex tants or any other oitheprment day navigationaids Our good friend Harry Morren has dropped off another set oiwonderful books which we are enjoying to thoulznnst SHOULD BE BETTER Fro mthe sounds of the long range weather reports this weekend should be lot better than last We want to Springwater Park for picnic dinner and Gracengh Topsf At SCFD IGol literally froze along with quite crowd of picnickcrs last Sun day Our youngest was quite thrilled with all of the wildlife at the park especially the cheeky red squirrels which did not stray too far from the refuse pails and picnic tables At one time there were upwards of dozen of them lugging away pieces oi bread as bigor bigger than themselves we think that Peter had ideas oi bringing one home to help him with the crusts We will say again what we have said many times we are in deed iortunate to have the best carnpSites and picnic areas any where in the worldbar none The Ontario Department at Lands and Forests certainly deserves lot of credit for their realistic policies on providing natural wellappointed parks of such natural beauty and an eye to the comfort oi the traveller who is fortunate enough to be able oo partake of them We can think of no better value for three bucks than that which entities to drive into any at their many parks for season The only regret that we have is that we did not have people withthe same longrange vision years ago We do have pet beet about many people who usethe facilities of our parks andcampsites Why do they not realize that it costs fortune to maintain these parks and campsites and practise little good housekeepingi We were appalled at the carelessness and downright thoughtlessnes of many people who did not use the waste receptacles We have been around long enough to realize that it does indeed take lot of people to make world but hope sin cerely that the numbers of those who become dedicated to being good sports and conservationminded will grow as the years go it We enjoy seeing little children tell adults to do the proper thing We have seen this on many occasionswe only hope that few more of these kiddies get working on few more adults in helping to maintain our pricelma heritage of the great outdoors Canada Mens
