THE BARRIE EXAMINER WEDNESDAY JUNE 19544 Grey Simone Foresters Reunion At Owen Sound Colors Presented iOwen Sound SunTimes Several hundred Owen Soundl citizens turned out Sunday morn ing to witness the parade of the Grey and Simcoe Foresters Assoc iation to the Owen Sound Arena for drumhead service one of the features of the associations third regimental reunion in Owen Sound on the weekend The Foresters wearing their dis tinctivc maroon berets with green regimental badge presented smart appearance as they paraded to the music of the OSCVl Trumpet Band and the Owen Sound Pipe Band And there was spring in their step and pride in their bearing as they marched past following the drnmhead service which was held ten years to the day after the Allied invasion of Normandy The salute was taken by Col Fleming former com manding officer of the Grey Reg iment one of the forerunners of the Foresters who had earlier pre sented the regimental colors to the association during the drumhead service Col Fleming was donor of the colors 200 Foresters 0n Parade Approximately 200 Foresters were on parade for the drumhead service conducted by Capt the Reverend Downer of Dun lroon padre of the 45m AntiTank Regiment which has evolved from the Foresters gaudy splash of color was ad ded to the parade by the brilliant red coats of the Cadet Band and the gay tartans of the Pipe Band Music for the service at the Arena and for the march past was pro vided by the khakiclad 451h Anti Tank Regimental Band The drumhead service was per haps the feature of the reunion as far as the general public was concerned Veterans from as far north as Sault Ste Marie Tim mins Haileybury and Sudbury joined with their comrades from the southern Georgian Bay District for the occasion Registration commenced Satur day morning and the air was thick during the afternoon with oftrepeated tales of derringdo of the past The reunited comrades held banquet Saturday evening at the Armoury and following the drumhead service on Sunday the business session was held at the Armoury to conclude the event The parade on Sunday was head ed by Ivor Wagner president of the Foresters Association for the past year Parade Marshal was George Wakeford Jack McLean was in charge of the color party Wreaths Are Laid The parade formed on lst Av enue West at 9th Street and moved south to the Queens Park Ceno taph where two wreaths were laid before the veterans moved on to the Arena Clifford lies sounded The Last Post and Reveille at the brief cenotaph ceremony large number of citizens at tended the drumhead service which concluded shortly before 11 oclock It was an impressive moment when Col Fleming presented first the Union Jack andthen the for est green color of the regiment Padre Downer said the colors which he dedicated were sign of duty to our Queen and to our country in the sight of God Following the service and prior to the march past the ceremony of trooping the colors was carried out at the slow march to the music of the Pipe Band At the conclu sion of the march past the Forest ers paraded up 10th Street East Hill to the Armoury Banquet Saturday Night There was an excellent turnout for the banquet held in the Arm oury onSaturday evening About 250 sat down to the dinner pre pared by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion Chairman for the dinner was Ivor Wagner president of the association Feature of the dinner was the presentation to Col Fleming of an oak shield on which was mounted the Foresters crest with silver nameplate below George Rhodes presented the gift to C01 Flem ing in recognition of the latters donation of the colors to the assoc ialion Head table guests at the dinner included Colin Bennett MP Ontario Health Minister Mackin non Phillips Mayor Percy Eng land Col Fleming Gordon Hig ginbottom of Toronto Capt Downer ot Duntroon LtCol Rutherford CBE ED of Ot tawa Warden George Mannerow of Grey County and Citizenship Minister Walter Harris few brief speeches were given by dignitaries at the head table Entertainment following the din ner was provided by James Mill man of London Association President Ivor Wag ncr presided for the busrness meeting on Sunday afternoon in the lecture room of the Armoury He was rcelectcd president of the Association Other officers elect ed were Vicepresidents Hugh Taylor of Orillia Mike Livingston of Toronto Stan Fisher of Sault Ste Marie treasurer Alan Stewart secretary Jack Sargent both of OWen Sound The latter two were reelected George Wakeford was elected to the newly created office of sergeantatarms Custodian For Colors Dunbar of Owen Sound was named custodian of the colors which were presented to the asso ciation The colors are to be irr sured Hugh Taylor president of tho Orillia Branch of the AsSociation extended an invitation to the For esters to hold their next reunion in Drillia The invitation was ac cepted and the reunion will be held in June 1956 in Orillia The meeting decided to have duplicate made of the regimental film and to have the film insured commentary is to be added to the film if possible The film has no sound track at present Letters of appreciation are to he sent to the mayor and city council of Owen Sound and to three bands which participated in Sundays act ivities Mr Wagner expressed his ap preciation to the members of the committees which were responsible for planning this years reunion They are Dunbar George Wakeford Jack McLean William McKenzie Alan Stewart Mur ray Gibbons George Rhodes James Beatty Harold Hunter Wil liam Fraser John Tilson James Atbotts and Jack Week St Pauls Farm Forum took bus trip to Guelph Experimental Farm on Tuesday morning to par ticipate in the provincial programs arranged there during the week The program included agricultural education including beekeeping dairying farm business procedures malntainance and upkeep of farm buildings farm machinery garden ing home economics livestock poultry soils and crops and tour of the veterinary college also gimpse as to how data on weather is collected Ilhere were special programs for the ladies The buildings open at 930 am and lunch is served at Greelman Hall between 1130 um and in full force and they had well filled bus and lovely day Delegations At Council Meeting The township council took most of their regular meeting time hear irug delegations from various groups and $250 be charged for pedlars operating in the township the clerk had written the Department of Municipal Adifairs for ruling on the proposd fee Aletter was received which stated that the larg est fee
