The close asociation of Ki wanians on both sides of the bord er which separates our two coun tries is an excellent example of the understanding cooperation and friendship between Canada and the United States which have never ceased to develop since the agreement was signed Close per sonal contacts such as you enjoy between residents of different countries are also the best guar antee for peace and prosperity in this uneasy world President Eisenhower to the observance of United StatesCanada Goodwill Week stated Together the United States and Canada share major part of great continent without animos ity or conflict Two were and the porblems of postwar readjustments have strengthened their ties and their mutual loyalties Each nation has recognized the necessity of maintaining the strength present United StatesCanada Goodwill Week which will be ob served the week of April 25May During the intervening years Kiwanis clubs have erected 25 bronze peace tablets at major ports of entry along Kiwanis Club of Barrie this week Presi dent Harris Redmond announced that the club would observe Un ited StrumCanada Goodwill Week with special program He said that the program would be high lighted by special music and an nouncements Celebrate 35 Years Service to Mothers And Children Starting in l9l9 as an emergency measure to provide convalescent care for mothers and children aff licted by the influenza epidemic the Moth sand BabesSummer Rest Ho has for the past 35 years co inued its services to mo thers an children and is planning to extend its program within the next decade To celebrate its 35th birthday Mothers and Babes Rest Home Association held tea on Thursday April 29 in the Plaza Room 18 Avenue Road The Home is located on Kempenfelt Bay near Tollendal Mrs Morris Till first chair man of the Mothers and Babes Summer Best Home and one of the prime movers of the project since its inception traced the develop ment of the program and the fac tors which prompted its growth According to her the first group of mothers and children attending camp was recruited from amongst the victims of the influenza epi demic These sufferers were un able to afford adequate convales cence and consequently looked to the Mothers and Babes Summer Rest Home dkssociation for help Mrs Till recalls the early be ginnings of the program when she and Mrs Ida Siegal and Mrs Helpert together with handful of determined volunteers first set up camp in rented building in Bronte These volunteers person ally provided for the physical con fortand the health needs of tne campers as well as the social activ ities In its 35 years of existence the Mothers and Babes Summer Rest Home has been called upon for variety of communal services mast outstanding of which was its program for new Canadians Prior and immediately after World War II the new Canadans began to require specialized help because of their inadequate housing and adverse economic conditions The Best Home enlarged its facility to provide twoweek holiday for those in need of respite from the pressures of reestablishing themselves in new country To meet this new demand the Rest Home moved its quarters to Bar rie and expanded its floor Monday night Geoff had the cadets doing bit of precision drill with drum rather than word of mouth commands It was surprising how quickly the squad ron caught on to this type of drill Geoff told us later that he found it easier to instruct the cadets than many of his army pupils during the war As yet we have no definite date for Air hdet Camp but have ap plied for and hope to get the lost two weeks in August Camp will be held in Clinton Ont this year Annual Inspection will be held on May 10 There will be only one more parade before inspection and this will probably be devoted large ly to
