driving The accident had occur red between the truck driven by himself and sleigh driven by William Home of Hawkestone Mr liorne was taken to hospital with an injured ankle allowing the ac nt and died the next day due to complications belicv arising from the fracture and shook Miss Betty Grcavcs ltugby school teacher told the court that at 430 pm on the afternoon of Feb 20 she was walkingiaioog the old Barrio Road when she noticed Mathews drive up behind the sleigh and then swerve out in her estimation he did not swerve out quite fast enough so causing the collision Mr Horne was thrown from the sleigh on to the road and the team of horses broke loose and ran away added Miss Grooves OPP Constable George Lloyd said that when he and fellow Con stable Del llopc questioned Matil ews following the accident they found that his driving license was restricted one marked with the words Validonly when wearing specially prescribed glasses The accused said he had not been wean ing his glasses at the time of the accident as the sun would have blinded him Seated in the back seat of the cruiser Mathews was asked by Constable Lloyd to read some red lettering onequarter of an inch high written on the dashboard ol the car Mathews leaned forward to within 20 inches of the writing but was still unable torcad the lettering Pleading not guilty and defend ed by Wallace Card Mathews was asked in court to
