shows dance bands roller skating and conventions For hockey it has 2767 permanenttype theatre seats plus 686 of the benchtype seats giving total permanent seating of 3435 This can be supplemented with 452 portable seats on the stage Therefore for hockey the total seating capacity is 3007 Eleven hundred could be put into standing room area which would give capacity of over 5000 for hockey For stage shows etc there are 3433 permanent seats plus 2000 temporary seats on the floor surface giving total of 5435 plus stand ing room The ice surface is 100 by 85 The stage is 30 by 85rwith an orchestra pit measuring 60 by 10 it is the only arena inCanada with permanent staging facilities in order to avoid the usual problems of floor heaving and soil conditions the floor under the ice has been elevated four feet above the ground Therefore it is called suspended slab The flooris ins uluted with cork on the bottom and when the ice is being made all that you have to freeze 715 the sixinch slab and the refrigeration is not wasted going twoorithreetfeet down intoutbe ground The centre has three refreshment canteens The canteen in th main lobby is 45 feet across and the two canteens down each
