for over two years is still in the drafting stage and it is unlikely that workwlll get under way this fall The ratepayers in the area were rep resented by the Yamamoto broth ers and Wolio who told Council that the flooding of their lands had lost them another crop again this year One iarmer did not get back the cost of the seed p04 tatoes he purchased for his farm They are very bitter about the delay which has beenshown to this work and asked that spe cial effort be made to get the work under way before the wet season again Deputy Reeve Sproule got Engineer Weir on the phone and was assured that the work on the drafting was under way and the presentation of the suggestions to the ratepayers in the form of court of revision would be made very soon Foils owing this it the majority of those who will he assessed are agree able then the work can he put up for tender However this would appear to require more time than will allow the work to be done before freeze up The delegation were some what bitter about previous delays and felt that there had been in difference in the matter We are losing our work year after year by the lack of this drainage they told CouncilAn other problem in the drainage is said to be the fact that the cut vert under the 400 Highway is too high to take this drainage ac cording to the township engineer Cookstown Ditch Request By Farmers group of farmers represent ed by Messrs Corrigan French and Draper came to ask about the cleaning of watercourse which drained their land in Con and down through the water course into Essa and back of Cookstown They were told that it would re quire petition and an applica tion under the watercourses act it was said that it had been cleaned previously by the town ship machines but Mr Cowan told Council that he did not think this had been paid for as arranged by the then Reeve Mr Banting and Road Supervi sor Stewart it was agreed that when petition was properly presented by all affected by the drainage then the township being party and others could have an engineer estimate the work in the meantime Fraser Suther land was to be instructed to help the ratepayers geta settlement under way and report to Council Mrlliss of 10th line had watercourseproblem He wanted culvert cleaned since he claimed the water hadbeen diverted over the roadway near his place and was not getting away now The Redfern ditch was men tioned when Tom Middleton owns format the bottom of this course asked how the costs would be assessed if am golt ing to be charged with the whole shot they can go to he told Council He was advised that the costs would be propor tioned among all those affected by the work whose lands drained into the watercourse He went away satisï¬ed Ask Loon Guaranteed The village of Cookstown is getting under way to have water supply system installed This rclt quiresa well to be proven and accepted by the Department at Health The well will cost about $3000 and to psyfor this loan hasnt hairs By williiavet heriisedbeforethe debentures are able for sale ihese cannot be eaten before the well is proven and the work for the system let by contract it was requested that the town ship guarantee its shareot this loan together with the other three municipalities that are part at the village as the viii Is not incorporated except as pollcevilllge This ms agreed to by motion Cookstotvh iltedepartment was mentioned As requiring bylaw to cover their fire arrangements with the various districts includ ing part at Innisill This ar rangement new shared ï¬ve ways will need sig ed bylaw and agreement to His the proper distribution of funds possible it win pointed out to lnnlsill Coun ci Garbage Contracts Some lnention was made when accounts were presented for work at garbage dumps that these costs should hIVe been paid by the contractors At the north dump Mr Cowan road supervisor stated that he had arranged with bulldozer opera tor to cover the materials placed there The contract was changed after the tenders were received raising this contract by $400 so that the coverage was to be in cluded Council felt that the set tlements should be withheld until the matter was cleared up Road Supervisor Cowan told Council that the trucks that haul ed garbage to the new Barrie dump were cutting up the roads of the township and were caus ing considerable complaint from the residents who lived in the areas It was suggested that the townline between Essa and innislt ill should be opened and that this matter should be taken up with Essa Township at once This would allow road from the 90 Highway to the garbage dump Ratepayers on this road have re quested the opening of this road which would also make shorter way to Camp Borden ior people living in the northwest corner of the township This portion of the township is under debate as to its being included in the Barrie extension Turn Down Proposal Build Service Roads The suggestion by the Depart ment of Highways that the towns ship take over the building at the new service roads which are to be constructed so that 400 High way can become closed access highway has been turned down by innisfll Council in private meet ing When the matter was discuss ed with the road supervisor The fact that the highway esti mated that from 10 to 40 thous and dollars per mile might be expended by them to make these roads and that if the township was doing the construction with its own Engineer it might be in control of the work and the spending did not deter the turning down of this offer Council ac ceptedthe advice of their road supervisor that his department did not wish to be responsible for the Wllik it is quite natural that Mr Cowan would not want to burden himself with such an additional amount work However the hiring of aqua1i fled engineer would be part of the cost and this would be paid for by the department The spa cifying that local labor and mat erials be used as far as possible is clause that appears in most such contracts Mr Cowan should not have been expected to assume the burden as he has big job now However the spending of the unlimited amounts such as will be needed vfor this work is something that the ratepayers of lnnlsdl should have been given ï¬rst consideration about There was no such urgency about the turning down of the departments offer The engineers who visited Council atthe previous open meet to know that the work was being undertaken bythe coming year ing statethat they would like CANADIAN QUEEN To Cni CAGOShena Anderson llycab old Orangeville high school sate iorihe daughter of Mr and Mrs
