we lee is very beneficial to our Rural Youth As viell as the work that we are able to do we would like to DAY particular tn buta to the +11 leaders who have worked with the boys and girls of the County in iurthering this work and misting them in their might also pay particular tribute to the oili cers of our various Junior organ izations who have been work ing in promoting their program in thecounty As tar as Senior agriculturol organizations of the county are concerned they have condoned to utter very worthwhile leader ship to the various groups We might mention particularly the breed organizations who have conducted twilight meetings sales and various other educa tional features to promote their breed or assist in helping other people get good breeding stock and improving the overall pics tura oi breeding in our county As well as this they have also assisted our Junior program to certain extentin uttering lend ershlp and help in the promotion at it The Crop Improvement Association along with thevarl ous sections at it including po tato work has continued to promote the growing of better crops in our county and we can see the new and improved vari eties giving us much higher yields and better qualitycrops FARM INCOME Farm income for the most part in 1958 was higher than during the past icwyears but still there is very close mar gin on number oi our larm products and the former has to pay considerable attention to his cost of production With farm management program and with closer eye on accounts and where his weak links are in his program he is able to make satisfactory income Higher costs oi production continue to be one of the bugbears and one of the problems with our farm program with the high overheads which are being establishcd farm machinery This is par ticularly true in the areas where iarmers are becoming special ized and much more expense is necessary in order to cut down on the overall costof pro duction This is also being iorced on the farmer because of the shortage of satisfactory farm labor Specialization appears to he the answer which number of our iarmers are accepting as means of increasing their arm income Unfortunately in number of cases it means the end of the family farm where number of different linesoi agri culture were carried on but with specialization it is possi ble to pay the taxes and have low dollars leit over for the fam ily to live on Good manage ment is essential in either case but appears to be closer liai Son between it and specialization LIVESTOCK IMPROVEMENT During the season our pure bred beef organizations have conducted sales in Barrie and Croemore and these continue to be wonderful source of breed mg stock or the farmers of the county There is an increased number of AR Advanced Reg istry bulls being sold through these sales and we are very proud of the offering the breed ers made at the sale in Cree more this fall selling top string of cattle for the highest price they have received since the sale was augurated ten Years ago This policy has much to offer the breeders and the purchasers in that they have better indication of what the an imals Will do due to the re cords kept on the feeding period and checking period with the Department The Simcoe County Yorkshire Breeders held their annual sale here in Barrie and once again an excellent offering was otiered to the breeders of the county and it in turn is helping to im prove the swine breeding prn gram of irncoe County OurD ry Herd Improvement Assomation in the County has continued to offer assistance to
