While passing another sleigh, owing to the road being sideling, his sleigh upset, throwing the occupants out and freeing the`box from the sleigh. In trying to stop the horses Mr. Davis was unsuccessful, as they wheeled and headed in the opposite direction, over- taking the sleigh they they had just passed, one horse going on each side of. it. In the entanglement that resulted one of the horses had its leg broken. 'l`he animal had to be shot. . . .Again` the grim monster, death, has visited this vicinity, taking as its victim Mr. John McKay. He was stricken with that dreadful disease, pneumonia, and after an illness of a little more ' than a `week, he died. The deceased was born in the County of Glengarry, Qnt., and about fteen years ago moved to the neighborhood of Brentwood where he lived for some time. During the last` few years he has made his home with his" only surviving daughter, Mrs. T. Brown, of Ivy, and previous to the lime of his death, on Saturday, Jan. 7th, was'in the employ cf`.Mr. G. Kearns. The funeral services were conducted in the Ivy Presbyterian church on Monday` by the Rev. Mr. Leishman, of `Angus, of whose church Mr. McKay was a"meniber'. He spoke very highly of the deceased. _After the service. the remains were removed to the cemetery at New Lowell.
